Well the z-5500s have an internal crossover that is used with 5.1 analog input, so I know those would work with any standard 5.1 analog soundcard.

I guess I should expand this to include the X-Fi too for anyone dealing with that.

Don't know if its worth anything or not, but when I turn on the X-Fi's crossover (from the THX panel) and start sending out that .1 signal, it kills the Z-5500's crossover and just uses the LFE signal its getting from the card, not its own.

I wouldn't think that was going to work quite like a regular HT crossover with a computer speaker set.

Does that mean you could set the crossover to 40hz or something and have the satellites try to play everything above that? I wouldn't have thought they would allow for that.

Exactly what it does, and if I set it to something crazy like 200 Hz, all the higher stuff getting sent over LFE overtakes the low stuff and I end up getting nothing out of the sub, at least its enough to make me sure that enabling crossover from the card disables the Z-5500 crossover.

Barely plays anything out of it, I'm still not sure why setting it that high up actually reduces the amount of sound being sent to the sub.

provided that the crossover is passive...that's highly unlikely
 
I have the subwoofer hooked up by having the front stereo speaker wires go through the woofer then out to the reciever (or vise versa) instead of using the dedicated "subwoofer" port on the back of the reciever.
 
Well, my setup (Audigy1 analog out to Yamaha receiver analog in) has the same sub issue. I have to crank the sub's level up to max and even then it's not as powerful as it normally is. I can't adjust the individual speaker levels with my driver, so I can't confirm it's the same issue as PurdueRy's, but it's quite probable.

It's a first-gen Audigy MP3 (Audigy1). It's also a VERY old receiver, an HTR-5150. I got it back in 98 or 99. It doesn't have level adjustments for the individual speakers, just a few DSP's (rock, jazz, etc.) and a 'night-time' mode that apparently simply lowers the high and low-end sounds. Oddly enough, it can adjust the time delay for front, rear, center, and sub and defeat the sub level for DD or DTS streams; it just can't adjust the volume level for the main speakers.

EDIT: When I was referring to adjusting the sub level earlier, I meant the control in the audio driver panel, not the physical sub's gain knob.

Could be a telltale sign of impending disaster. Those vermin will wreak havoc on surrounds. (outer periphery of transducer suspension not the little speakers behind you!) 😛

I can test this for you if you send me a receiver with 5.1 analog inputs 😛

(FWIW there is a setting for sub crossover frequency, but obviously it isn't gonna do much of anything on my X-530's 😉)
 
It has always worked fine for me....jsut have three RCA adapter couples running from the pc to my recievers 5.1 analog inout.


gnerally, I keep my recievers crossover at 80hz and use the sub out for the sub without bothering to use the subs crossover.

As for software, I have all the drivers installed, have digital unchecked, have my spekaers et to 5.1, and the bass redirection tab is checked withthe frequency set at 80hz

I thought it worked for some people and I have recommended it as a connection before.

I've seen some people who can't get it to work for the life of them though, so I wanted to make sure I could recommend it in the future.

It seems like several people have gotten it to work with just some small adjustments :thumbsup:

I like jello.

My favorite kind is orange jello with mandarin oranges in it. I also like Jello pudding varieties, and am a fan of Jello's No Bake Oreo Pudding Pie. It's delicious.
