the theory of the dying doctor being a "flesh" would explain why there was no other tardis within sight. But I hope there's more of a twist than that and it isn't that simple.

True, they also said that
the flesh doctors molecular structure may not be lost...

So, how long before the Doctor turns into the Valeyard?

And yes, I'm being serious here. The plot line of the manifestation of the Doctor's dark side is just sitting there, waiting for the likes of Moffat or another modern writer to pick up.

Well... They did say that the Valeyard was an entity created "somewhere between the Doctor's twelfth and final incarnations"

The plot line of the manifestation of the Doctor's dark side is just sitting there, waiting for the likes of Moffat or another modern writer to pick up.

Well... Moffat did touch on it with the "Dream Lord" in S5E7 Amy's Choice

I had a pretty good feeling from several episodes back about that ending...

My wife unleashed a string of profanity when she saw that it wasn't coming back until autumn.

Dr. Who is an interesting show. I was a tyke, but the first Dr. I saw was the first.

I've been going through the new series on Netflix and I have only one question for the Brits. Where have you been hiding all the minorities? :D

Where I live at least, we don't really have any, it's rare to see a black person in my town.

Same here. I "knew" the big spoiler at the end of the episode, but it was still pretty amazing watching it.

Really enjoyed the episode. The wait is too long until the next one.

I have a feeling that the good man that River keeps referring to is
Rory. I thought it would end up as the Doctor, but it makes more sense if its her father.

Regarding this weeks episode in the US
The ganger Doctor, and the Doctor switched places. Amy told the "real" Doctor about his death, so he knows he is going to die. It seems to obvious to bring back the ganger Doctor and have him be the one shot by the astronaut in the first episode. I think they will work out a way to keep him around, and prevent the death. Its 200 years into the Doctor's future, so he has some time. :)

I actually had the same thought about it being Rory and not the doctor who she ends up killing. I also think it is interesting that the Doctor now has 200 years to figure out how to get out of dying etc. going to be very interesting.

Also River being Amy's daughter makes her death very tragic, in that at the end the doctor didn't even know her. Now he has to go through his life not telling her and living with Amy and Rory, while knowing how their child dies.

Just saw it. Not the best episode story-wise, but it got things done. Can't wait until the return. Looks like a lot's up in the air now.

Yeah, that episode definitely got things done. Looking forward to seeing this fleshed out so we can understand better as to why this is all happening.

this whole river song nonsense is flimsy, poorly written garbage worthy of quinten tarantino, m night shamalan and other hacks. are we up to "single most important woman in the universe" #4 now? the doctor doesn't know it was her crib until she tells him to read the writing in his own language? with the exception of "the doctor's wife" this show has totally tanked, and alienates (no pun) all but the youngest and dumbest of viewers.

What.

Quentin Tarantino is probably my favourite director he is yet to do anything "hack-esque"

I liked how the River song thing played out, it wasn't perfect but it was good.

wow.. you're an idiot.

he didn't tell her to read the CRIB... he said it was his crib.

He told her to read the writing on the cloth leaf....

that's when he smiled, because he knew who she was.

Very true, buut she did say to Amy to read the crib then said "It doesn't translate because it's galifrean"

wow...who's an idiot? try watching that again.

you're wrong. Watch it again yourself, pay attention this time.

He says it's his crib, she says "can't you read" and the camera pans to the galifreyan cause that is what Rory and Amy look at while the doctor can see the leaf in the crib. You just never see his eyes due to the camera cutting to Rory and Amy

She never tells Amy to read the crib either.

River: "It's the TARDIS translation matrix it takes awhile to kick in with a written word, you have to concentrate"
Camera pans to galifreyan. Where AMY is looking
Amy: "I can't read that"
River: "That wont translate but this will" presents the leaf with her name on it.

it is never once stated that the galifreyan is River's name, the camera shows that because from the view of Rory and Amy, and the viewers, they cannot see the leaf. You assumed that the crib had her name on it and you are wrong.

Just watch

It's a subtle misdirection.

the scene can be interpreted two ways,

1) it says the doctors name on the crib and the prayer leaf is the only thing river is referring amy to read. but that doesnt explain much.

or

2) the crib has pond written on one side and melody on the other in galefreyian and the doctor never really noticed or connected such and old memory. when he realizes who river is and the fact that the crib was hers before it was his, it suggests that now that he knows melody was in the crib at some point in his past and he now knows how to find her. This is why he rushes off at the end and promises amy that melody will be alright. It is also why he asks river how he looks("spectacular") because he's heading off to meet melody for the first time she might be able to remember it.

[i am no longer using spoiler blocks cuz only a goof reads a thread for a specific episode with spoiler in the title without expecting some frikken spoilers.]

Only the first one is true. The camera clearly focused on Amy's eyes, and where she was looking when it panned to the writing on the crib. I watched it 3 times in the past week (re-runs, blow me...), and it took the third viewing to see that. The Doctor was clearly looking inside the crib, at the leaf.

And I don't think it was ever River's crib. She got abducted, and in episode 1 of the season, she was still running around on her own. So it looks like she grew up to at least age 7(???) alone or not with the Doctor at least.
