The ganger Doctor, and the Doctor switched places. Amy told the "real" Doctor about his death, so he knows he is going to die. It seems to obvious to bring back the ganger Doctor and have him be the one shot by the astronaut in the first episode. I think they will work out a way to keep him around, and prevent the death. Its 200 years into the Doctor's future, so he has some time.

I actually had the same thought about it being Rory and not the doctor who she ends up killing. I also think it is interesting that the Doctor now has 200 years to figure out how to get out of dying etc. going to be very interesting.

Also River being Amy's daughter makes her death very tragic, in that at the end the doctor didn't even know her. Now he has to go through his life not telling her and living with Amy and Rory, while knowing how their child dies.

this whole river song nonsense is flimsy, poorly written garbage worthy of quinten tarantino, m night shamalan and other hacks. are we up to "single most important woman in the universe" #4 now? the doctor doesn't know it was her crib until she tells him to read the writing in his own language? with the exception of "the doctor's wife" this show has totally tanked, and alienates (no pun) all but the youngest and dumbest of viewers.

Quentin Tarantino is probably my favourite director he is yet to do anything "hack-esque"

I liked how the River song thing played out, it wasn't perfect but it was good.

He says it's his crib, she says "can't you read" and the camera pans to the galifreyan cause that is what Rory and Amy look at while the doctor can see the leaf in the crib. You just never see his eyes due to the camera cutting to Rory and Amy

She never tells Amy to read the crib either.

River: "It's the TARDIS translation matrix it takes awhile to kick in with a written word, you have to concentrate"
Camera pans to galifreyan. Where AMY is looking
Amy: "I can't read that"
River: "That wont translate but this will" presents the leaf with her name on it.

it is never once stated that the galifreyan is River's name, the camera shows that because from the view of Rory and Amy, and the viewers, they cannot see the leaf. You assumed that the crib had her name on it and you are wrong.

Only the first one is true. The camera clearly focused on Amy's eyes, and where she was looking when it panned to the writing on the crib. I watched it 3 times in the past week (re-runs, blow me...), and it took the third viewing to see that. The Doctor was clearly looking inside the crib, at the leaf.

And I don't think it was ever River's crib. She got abducted, and in episode 1 of the season, she was still running around on her own. So it looks like she grew up to at least age 7(???) alone or not with the Doctor at least.
