The best rice is in Aussieland too. You've had the STi since '94 (when it was first developed). We had to wait 10 years to get it here in the States. I just don't get it why the US always get shafted on the good cars... fscking insurance companies I bet... :frown:
hehe we can get GTR'S for under AU$40000 and they are plenty common here
It's funny to see aussie ricers, when they get smoked by a V8 4 door sedan..been there done that plenty of times:D
There's a lot more to driving than a straight line. Trying rocking a twisty mountain highway in a drenching downpour sometime in your RWD V8... if you can ;)

I think the reason you don't see a car like that in the US is that in the US if we want a pickup we go buy a pickup not some half ass truck/car piece of crap el camino.

like i said been there done that before..remember aussie cars are built for poor road conditions(except in Victoria..the biatches)..they have to handle as well.

I find the bashing of the American car companies amusing, seeing as the aforementioned Australian brands are owned by GM and Ford. BTW, I'm Canadian.

thats about the only thing that they have in common with the US manufacturers, we do thing very different here..unlike the lazy american companies..when the japanese manufacturers invaded in the early 80's we did something about it to keep Aussie cars number one on our markets, then the germans tried to invade in the early 90's and we were forced to do something about..Aussies take great pride in their cars!

But they aren't Australian brands. You showed a Ford Ute. Ford's headquarters is in Michigan, USA. How can you bash American car companies in one sentence and praise them in the next?

Do you guys actually make better quality cars or are you just stomping out competition because they're foreign?

Yank this... *zip*

We've gotten past the El Camino/Ranchero stage here although they still are popular with the mullet crowd and migrant workers, lol. They are classics when properly restored and that doesn't mean a $99 Maaco paintjob either.

I want a freakin new Cadillac Escalade.. to heck with them tiny vehicles.

The aussies must be about 10 years behind us in auto styling.

I've never liked the "car with a truck bed" look on anything. The El Camino is ugly (Chevy Malibu w/ a truck bed). Ford made one, but I can't remember it's name. Subaru makes one now (Baja).

They might be fast, but they're just darn ugly. I'd rather have a real truck that's been souped up (Ford Lightning, Dodge Ram SRT-10).

no, we just take a lot of que's from european styling instead..as for build quality..10 years ahead at least.
sure yanks make NICE looking cars but whats the point if the fall apart five miles down the road.

Although we have other vehicles that fit the roll, there's been nothing direct since the El Camino ceased production in the early '80s. There's just not a market for a small cab anymore (even extended cabs are becoming rare). Everyone wants to be able to fit an entire country in thier car.

Some former equivilents:
S-10 Extreme
Syclone
Dakota R/T
Lightning

Current equivilents:
Ram SRT-10
Subaru Baja
SSR

Dug..i never said our cars look crap..quite the opposite, but when was the last time that aussie manufacturers look to the US styling..I believe 1979 was the last year for fords with the XC falcon...I think 1978 for GMH with it's kingswood...everything since then has been based on the Euro look, although GMH did take it a bit far with actually using heavily modified Opels for the base of the crummydore!

The new commodores certainly look like a fatter version of the Vectra.

yep..thats how vectra's are produced by putting two VZ's in garage together..the next day a little vectra rolls out beside them...seriously
