If I'm wearing a dress shirt, then I'm also wearing a white Hanes Premium t-shirt underneath it. These are worth the premium over the ComfortSoft.

After all, we're not barbarians are we?

Yea I really didn't get that comment. Can you explain it for the mentally challenged like me?

This is the classic "wife beater" shirt worn by the common American Redneck:

As you can see, it is not quite a t-shirt. It is more of a fashion statement and generally worn as a primary garment.

File under "welcome to the gun show" and "check out these sweet tats".

(By the way, I put Kid Rock in there for you Rudeguy because he is Michigan's true national treasure)

That's the thing... I don't like long-sleeved button-up shirts. They're impractical in the summer as everyone just bunches up the sleeves, and in the winter, they get all manged up by your coat's sleeves. So... fuck 'em! Plus, I work in software, so I get to play to the stereotype.

But yes, that's also why I don't wear light-colored shirts. Plus, if I did wear one at this point, it would send people into shock.

Yeah, I work in corporate software development... I get to wear long sleeve and slacks every day. I never even seen a customer, but got to look professional. It is pretty dumb.

During the summer/warmer times of the year - no, just the button up shirt.

During the winter/colder times of the year - yes, a white t-shirt or the wife beater.

I never understood wife beaters. They just dont have the capacity to absorb sweat from under the arms. The principle reason for wearing an undershirt is because of sweaty pits and wife beaters lack the material in the right places for absorption.

I don't think most people who wear professional clothes ever see customers.

I wear T shirts with both button up shirts and golf shirts (polo shirts) . I like 100% cotton and V-neck hanes . You can wear a nice short sleeve thru all the cold months and not be cold with a T-Shirt. No matter how clean you are, your body excretes natural oils, those oils go into the T shirt, then your shirts stay looking good longer... I've read AnandTech for years , I decide to register today and this post comes up ...lol ...my first post is on T shirts

Thats just a vest isnt it?

I thought a wife beater was a string vest like this.

At my first job, their restriction is that you had to wear business casual because you may have an encounter with the customer at any time. They didn't care about long-sleeved vs. short-sleeved shirts, but they did expect a nice button-up shirt (or maybe a nice polo) and some dress khakis. It's a pretty radical change from where I am now; I see people wearing jeans, a polo shirt and sneakers quite often. It's pretty much myself and the old guys that wear the "dressier" clothes. :p

I don't think most people who wear professional clothes ever see customers.

You don't usually, and if you do, it's usually not random (a planned meeting). The people are usually just neurotic about their image.

Called wife beater in USA because if you watch an episode of Cops, (show where a camera crew rides along/follows a police car around town responding to calls). 96% of the time, whenever there is a domestic violence/disturbance call and a male suspect is arrested and pulled out of the home, they are invariably wearing a "wife beater" tank top, usually stained.

Undershirts are borderline acceptable with button downs if you're a sweaty pig. Undershirts with polos look absolutely ridiculous. Similar to socks with sandals.

Everyone who does that needs to stop now. Trust me, I'm doing you a favor.

I think that that's the identical reasoning behind string vests being called that over here.

Your post is just full of fail.

Shirts under polos is not even remotely close to being like socks with sandals. That would be more like wearing long johns under a tank top.

Yeah, so tell me why they are called undershirts? You do understand if you wear deep V-neck undershirts, no one can really tell you are wearing one right?

Your advice isn't doing me any favors.

This. I think they preserve my regular shirts as well. I can get a couple of wears out of them before I have to clean them. But, it's a lot more laundry as I wear a new undershirt every day.

if you're wearing an appropriate undershirt, I'm not sure how one would even see it under a polo shirt.

With dress shirts, I always wear a thin white shirt underneath. With casual button downs (plaid, strips, etc.), I usually wear a t-shirt of a matching color under. I do sweat a lot so this is the main reason although I do like the look.
