I have so many undershirts that they get filed into different 'grades.'

The newest ones, still actually all white and shit, tend to get worn when I just feel lazy and I'm not gonna put anything else on besides maybe a jacket.

'B' grade are getting a little dingier, but not awful. Still good for most things, but I wouldn't wear one with nothing over it.

Below that are the ones that no amount of bleach can save. Heavy pitstains. They are for when I know they won't be seen, and I just need a good armpit barrier.

If you wear a dress shirt with no undershirt, you're gross.

Yeah, so tell me why they are called undershirts? You do understand if you wear deep V-neck undershirts, no one can really tell you are wearing one right?

Your advice isn't doing me any favors.

My advice doesn't apply to collar-popping Bostonians.

Once undershirts fall into this category, I turn them into dusters, kitchen rags, drying rags and keep laundering them until they fall apart. or I use them as rags to change oil, clean messes etc... and then they get thrown away

A string vest creates an insulating layer of air. Very hairy people have this effect naturally.
A button front shirt is only called button down if it has a button down collar.

I hate V neck anything when shopping for myself. Women can wear it all they want but men should wear round neck lines not v neck.

How about that boat neck shirt Khalid Sheik Mohamed got arrested in?

1 or 2 buttons open on a button shirt essentially creates a v-neck so i don't see what's wrong with vnecks

My usual dress is collared shirt no tie. It looks ridiculous to have a collared shirt on, no tie, and crew neck undershirt.

I believe it might make you look ridiculous. It makes me look awesome.

I do not like v-necks, just don't care for them. I like crew necks. I hate, hate, hate polo shirts. Polo shirts make everyone look like a realtor or a car saleman embarking on a three day drunk. Totally unprofessional for work and grossly uncomfortable for leisure, the worst form of shirt for any occasion.

If you happened to be flanked by two tall guys who wanted to keep their wieners warm, that shirt would be just the thing. With a polo shirt, you'd have your hands full.

Damn. Point taken. Maybe I should get one?

Undershirts are borderline acceptable with button downs if you're a sweaty pig. Undershirts with polos look absolutely ridiculous. Similar to socks with sandals.

Everyone who does that needs to stop now. Trust me, I'm doing you a favor.
Worked security at Motorola when I lived in San Diego and their provided uniform was a Securitas polo. They specifically required a white undershirt to be worn with it. I saw them send a kid home for having a black T-shirt under his uniform polo. As I said earlier, many dress codes require undershirts.

I thought I was the only person OCD about my undershirts. I separate mine by fit. The ok fitted ones to the left. I wear these when I know I'll never have to take my shirt off, mainly at work. The newer ones on the bottom. Then another pile of very fitted ones (more expensive), that I wear if I know I'm going on a date, need to look my best or having someone over where I know I'll be taking my shirt off. Then the colored ones in another stack. When the shirts get too dingy I drop them down to the bottom drawer for shirts I wear when I'm working out or biking or doing yard work or whatever. And when they get unwearable I take them to the basement and put them in the rag box. And I have a package of brand new shirts in my closet, just in case.

Yeah, I'm OCD. I color coordinate my closet.

The only time I don't wear an undershirt is if I am just wearing a t shirt in hot weather or around the house or if I am wearing those wicking type athletic shirts/polos.

I wear mostly only polo shirts. I have a desk job for IT. It's business casual which is polo shirts and khakis. I don't look like a car salesman. Most car salesmen wear button shirts with a sport coat.

I don't wear them outside of work usually, but they are very professional if in good shape.
