You use Rotella in the Forester? Want the high zinc for the flat 4?
What do you drive, a tractor?
I use 10W-40 in my Jeep Cherokee 4.0L pushrod even though the manual says 10W-30.
Why? Because the 10W-30 recommendation is for gas mileage. In other countries they recommend 15W-40 for the same engine because it protects better.
Chevron Supreme BTW

sometimes even SAE oil D: .
SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers and is the grading standard for oil weights. 5w20 is properly referred to as SAE 5w20.
I believe you mean straight-weight oil.

You run that in the winter as well?
Yep. If it's really cold, I let it warm up a little before driving.
I was always under the impression that it was thicker and thus won't provide as good of lubrication upon startup. Then again I don't understand oil designations and what engines can accept all that well.
It's very popular in Subaru motors - apparently Mobil1 (specifically 5w30) breaks down too quickly, but Rotella is supposed to do quite well. I may send a sample out to Blackstone at 3k and see what it looks like.
Different beast entirely - I'm running the turbo motor with a bigger turbo, intercooler, exhaust and tune.Interesting, if you do send for a UOA let me know the results. I'm currently running Pennzoil yellow bottle 5W-30 in my mom's NA Forester, haven't had any issues but if the Rotella is a better match for the engine then I'll use that instead.

Johnson and Johnson baby oil works great and is cheaper than rip off "motor" oil. And it makes your car smell good too.
