Why not use POP3 access for this?

Wish I had the time to figure out how to get hotmail and yahoo mail to work with it
I find this works rather well.

AFAIK, both have search features.
Indeed. Outlook has a discete search feature, as well as Search Folders (which work extremely well).

Also, most desktop search applications interface readily with Outlook.

I run an Exchange server.

I connect to it via Outlook Web Access when I am not at home.

For the Gmail/Outlook users, why do you use Outlook? Just because you don't like using a website for your email?

I use Thunderbird for my POP3 for work, IMAP for school, but Gmail for everything else. Will be using Gmail once I graduate and lose my school account.

pop is lame, except when you're forced to .. i.e. Comcast which I use with pop

Otherwise, for school mail I use IMAP. Webmail only for hotmail and crap where I let junk pile up.

Mail on the Powerbook. Outlook on my desktop. Internet based when I'm not at my own computers.

it has other stuff you can use to organize your life, like contacts, appointment reminders, tasks, etc plus you can synchronise it all with your mobile.
