Do you use an alarm clock to wake you up for work?

I am curious about this. At work the other day a guy who is older than me probably mid to late 40's mentioned his alarm clock, and then a younger guy who works with me who is probably 30 or so kind of laughed at the fact that this guy uses an alarm clock to get up. The 30 year old said he just uses his phone.

I'm 37 and I use an alarm clock. The only time I use my phone is when we're waking up to travel and it's a backup because I've been known to turn my clock off while half asleep.

When I get home my phone pretty much gets put down and I rarely see it while at home or look at it. I rarely use it in general as I'm just not one of those people who needs to be on their phone all the time like most people seem to be now a days.

I'm guessing it's also a generational thing too, and this younger kid grew up with phones and stuff so he's always on it and can't live without it.

So do you use an alarm clock to wake yourself up, and what is your age?

I'm in my mid-30s and I use my phone as a primary and an alarm clock set 5 minutes after the phone as a backup.

I use my phone so I don't have to worry about resetting my clock if the power goes out. Actually, I don't even have a clock in my bedroom.

When I was younger (before smartphones) I would use an alarm clock like anyone else.

Alarm clock, I only use the phone if I absolutely have to wake up on time. Since it is an unusual alarm it does the trick.

I've always used an alarm. My body's natural sleep cycle will otherwise have me sleeping past noon. Does not matter when I go to bed, my real sleep happens in the morning hours so if I need to get up early I definitely need an alarm. I don't know how people wake up on their own, wish I had that skill though. Even on days off I put an alarm so that I can get up at a half decent time.

Phone is an alarm clock. Otherwise I will sleep until noon, eat lunch, roll over and go back to sleep, and not remember eating lunch.

I thought dude was going to laugh at him for needing an alarm period. I rarely set my alarm and most of the time I'm up before it goes off when I do. Of course I use my phone who needs an alarm clock these days. I got black out curtains and phone goes on its front so it doesn't put off any light, you can't see your hand two inches from your face in my room at night. The only way to sleep, the light from a clock would drive me crazy.

I'm in my early 30s. Up until late last year, I was still using an alarm clock. Mainly because I had it; there was no particular reason I was using it over my phone. But since I moved, I chucked the alarm clock and now stick to my phone.

But I generally don't need an alarm - our dog tends to wake us up before it would go off anyway.

I'll use my phone when I have to use an alarm. Which is pretty rare. Usually, when I'm out of town traveling for work, I'll use an alarm of some sort. Otherwise, I'm pretty much programmed to wake up at 6-630am everyday. Drives the wife nuts.

Phone. I have a bose clock radio I use for the radio, and glancing at the time while walking by, but my phone's more reliable. Also, the radio is far from the bed, and it has one of those stupid credit card remotes, so if I can't locate the remote quickly, I have to listen to an obnoxious noise til I get out of bed.

Only if I have a customer coming in before 9am. Otherwise I just sleep until I wake up

I have an old tablet i use as an alarm clock, battery is dead so its always plugged in.

But i only ever have it actually go off maybe once a month if that.

My Cat Max, will wake me up every morning 5 mins before it goes off by headbutting me in the nose, and then purring in my face from 1cm away, lol.

So i guess i have an alarm cat?

Mid-30s and use the same alarm clock I've had for the last 16 years. When I travel I'll use my phone though

Soon to be 41. Alarm clock. If I take a nap during the day I'll tell Google when to wake me up.

I still use an alarm clock. I like a clock with big red digits within sight of my bed so when I wake up I can see how much longer I can sleep. My cheap phone would put out too much blue light even if it displayed red digits.

Oh, and if my alarm is in arm's reach I have been known to turn the alarm off and fall asleep again. So my alarm clock is across the room.

In an ideal world, I go to bed during my sleep window (~8:30pm) and wake up naturally at around 3:30 to 4:00am. I was a nightowl & had insomnia my whole life, which changed when I started listening to my body about when it wanted to go to sleep, and I discovered that I'm like ten times more alert & energetic when I go to bed when my body wants to go to bed.

When I hit my sleep window, I'm pretty consistent at waking up by 4:00am naturally. Although on nights like tonight, where I'm on a late work call, I'm stuck being up late, so the most I can do is ensure that I get my body's minimum required 7 hours of sleep.

Because that happens more often that I'd like, or because I make the stupid decision to stay up late, I often need an alarm to wake up. My alarm setup is pretty solid:

1. Small UPS battery next to my bed. I use my iPhone as my primarily alarm clock; I've had the power go out & had my phone die several times as a result, to the point where I invested in a small UPS to keep it charged, even if the power goes out. It powers my iPhone, my Apple Watch, and my Echo Dot. It also goes on sale quite a bit, so please don't pay $70 for it:

https://www.amazon.com/APC-Back-UPS-Connect-Charging-BGE50ML/dp/B013JHYQNC

2. I have a traditional alarm clock that I purposely plugged in across the room, so I have to get out of bed & walk across the room to turn it off. It's set to 5 minutes after my iPhone alarm, just in case I'm super tired & turn my phone off while in a semi-conscious state. That one doesn't run on a UPS, but it does have a backup 9V battery that I switch out every 6 months via a calendar reminder (because otherwise I will 100% forget) & primarily runs off A/C power.

The result is:

1. My iPhone alarm wakes me up, even if the power goes out

2. If I accidentally snooze that one, the alarm clock across the room wakes me up, even if the power goes out

This has been a pretty solid system for the last year or so for me! May sound like a bit overkill, but I hate missing work & being late to projects because I overslept, and this pretty much 100% prevents that from ever happening.

I use an alarm clock that plays mp3's to wake me. I can't stand being woke by buzzers. bells, or some crap radio station. I'd rather wake to music I like. It's powered by a li-ion battery, no worries about power outages. I also have separate projection clock so I can read the time without my glasses.

Most days i wake up about 10 minutes before it goes off anyways.

Have a big East facing window and wake up when the sun shines in. Wakes me up earlier in the summer and later in the winter, works out really good for me.

I do set one on vacation though so I don't miss the boat.
