I for one tip $1-$3 depending on the price.
But many people I talk to say they never tip for take out. Must be cheapskates.

Do you know what a tip is for? A tip is given to an employee for customer service (waiting on a table, taking luggage to a hotel room, etc). Who excatly are you tipping if you pick up the food from a restaurant? The chef? Cashier?

Even I get irritated when cheap people refuse to tip well at a restuarunt when they receive great service; for good service, I'll tip 30%.

But tipping for carry-out is just ridiculous and stupid. The people who you're tipping probably feel the same way.."why is this weird person tipping me"

A fool and his money are soon departed

Don't make me go find your old thread where you left the incredibly cheap tip at Wolfgang Puck's resturaunt after you told the world how great the food/service was.

You don't want to go through that again, do you?

That's ridiculous. You'd leave $130 on a $100 tab? holy chowder.

That sounds to me like it would be a 130% tip.

$100 final bill + 30% tip = $130

Math has never been Steve's strong point...

Maple Syrup clogs the neurons :p

Yup, I left 16% tip on a $500+ bill last time, I'm such a cheap ass.

You know what, I went to Cut again last Wednesday, and I even MET Wolfgang who came to my table and shook my hand AND sat across from Jennifer Aniston and I left a measly 18% tip on a $550 bill. I am SUCH a cheapass!

I just seriously think this tipping thing is ridiculous. Why tip at one restaurant and not others? Did the people at Burger King not work as hard as the people at Chili's??? How about the people who load up your food/products at Costco or Home Depot, do they not also provide a service? Does the OP do things like that???

Some places will bring the food out to your car, in that case I'll tip a dollar or just tell them to keep the change.

Otherwise, I don't tip for takeout.

lol @ this thread.

I tipped occasionally on takeout orders. If it's right before they close or it was a special order or something I would still do it. I've realized for awhile that it's really not necessary and the opening statement made in the 1st post is very pretentious & foolish.

Whenever anyone do a good deed for a the sake of feeling good is a selfish act. You're suppose to do a good deed for the sake of it and not expect anything in return. Do you have low self esteem that's why you tip to make yourself feel better? Are you insecure?

If tipping makes you feel good, keep it up. Tip more and it might boost your self esteem more.
