<< My wife met her new boyfriend when they both worked at Wal-Mart. The management there knew that she was having an affair with a co-worker, and did nothing to stop it, or discourage it. Did I say ex-wife? Thanks Wal-mart!!! (8 years ago). >>
This is a new one. Walmart is evil for ruining your marriage. I don't want to sound like an ass, but from a business standpoint, they did the right thing. I don't want to initiate a flame war and accuse you of not paying more attention to your wife or something, but it's simply impractical for a company to get involved. They risk lawsuits, bad publicity, and headlines they'd rather not see. You're dealing with a huge faceless corporation, corporations have no sympathy or emotion, they're geared toward making MONEY. My personal management style revolves around small startup companies where you can deal with employees personally and get more invovled. I personally think that it's best to get involved in your employee's lives for the better and help them out when possibly- but i'm not deluded enough to think this is possible on a national chain level scale. This is why i'll be working at startups rather than multi billion dollar companies.
<< Excellent article. This is why the rules of the game need to be changed. >>
If you can propose a better economic system than Capitalism, go for it. If you don't like the rules you can always endorse communism and leave, it's about as simple as that. You can regulate the game by preventing monopolies, but there's not a whole lot you can do when the point of capitalism is every man for himself.
"Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone." -Keynes-.
<< I work there and they are evil. I don't get paid enough and they seem to like to cut hours because they are going to be "over budget". Part of the problem is that stores small like the one I work at have to pay too much to freakin corporate Waltons. >>
If they're cutting you short that's a question of legality more than being evil. But if they're evil because they don't pay you more, well hell just about every employer out there is evil.
