Many years ago I worked for one. There was a manager who was married to a woman with a successful medical career and could not easily uproot. Walmart wanted to transfer the manager to another area. When he said his wife couldnt move, they suggested he divorce her. Of course he quit. Not the end of story though. They made his life hell by blackballing him. Couldnt get a decent reference although he did well for them.
He wasnt a "team player"

Nice people

I had no idea that walmart was that big. I live in an area where there is practically everything within a good 20 minute drive, from big clothing suppliers such as Macy's, JC Penny's, Nordstrom's, Merven's to electronic biggies Best Buy, Good Guys, Circuit City, CompUSA, and the rest of em. But the nearest Walmart is in San Francisco, and i've never even seen the building, let alone been in there. I'd think that Starbuck's is taking over our world a little faster since in the time it takes me to drive to the nearest Walmart I can probably go to about 10 starbucks, placing an order at each one, and drinking it while driving to the next starbucks.

No.

I don't go there all the time, but occasionally they will have something I need (cheap Mobil 1 Delvac), and it is usually at a fair price.

Not to mention that the discount chains up here (Zellers, Giant Tiger) are so ridiculously understocked and messy it doesn't leave a real alternative. :(

"The public be damned! I'm working for my stockholders." - William Henry Vanderbilt

I'm with William Henry! And aren't stockholders part of the public too? Substitute the word public with consumers and I doubly agree! Look at the scum frequenting Hot Deals, the WMC and now BestBuy video card wienie whiners. Screw them! If Walmart manages to crush union extortion and pass the savings on to consumers, hell, what more could you want? Nobody is holding a gun to worker's heads to work where they do. Nobody is forcing suppliers to sell to Walmart. If they can't compete, let them supply Walmart's competition instead.

Walmart's business model is based on what they can get away with and what consumers want. When you see a mispriced product, you demand and get the item at that price. But when Walmart plays by the rules in place, you whine and cry about the unfairness. Boo hoo. If you can't beat 'em, buy their stock and quit whining!

Well hello down there. Why are you wallowing in the mud?

Seriously though, I have never bought anything from a Walmart. Heck, every time I've been in one I either can't find what I'm looking for or if I find something, it looks like it would break the first time I used it.

Edit: And yes, the people shopping and working there give me the willies.

<< it's like a white trash ho down or something.
Too many white trash people
walmart=hillbilly mall.......
The only possible effect I can see it having in Kent is drawing the hicks out of hiding and lowering my property values
Most people I see that work at Wal-Mart look like they fit there
Edit: And yes, the people shopping and working there give me the willies

being a business major and having studied sam walton's business model to some degree, i can't say i'd turn my head. money is evil, and if you're out to make a name for yourself in corporate america, it sure as hell isn't by giving your business to every mom and pop store that comes around. diss the game, not the players. i can't believe your running arguments against the store chain is "those hicks give me the willies".

i don't see what's wrong with walmart, they're playing the game like everyone else. i get products i want for a cheap price (i'm a college student, so it's not so much quality in products as quantity). as a friend of mine put it, "no mom and pop store was ever open at 3am when i needed cough medicine for my kid. but walmart was."

Very well stated sir. We all have the choice of how to spend our money so anyone who has issues with how Wal-Mart, BB, ect. due business can show their displeasure by shopping elsewhere. I prefer to shop@Target myself. BTW, I get my groceries@Publix Supermarkets and think Super Wal-marts are a Zoo ;)

Yep they're evil, but I shop there anyway, they've killed most of the other businesses that I'd buy from, so I don't have much choice, plus they'll pricematch anyone for anything, with very little fuss.

Have to admire their marketing & business model though, and if you're willing to wait in line for customer service, they agree with the customer 99% of the time.

My wife met her new boyfriend when they both worked at Wal-Mart. The management there knew that she was having an affair with a co-worker, and did nothing to stop it, or discourage it. Did I say ex-wife? Thanks Wal-mart!!! (8 years ago).

<< Wasn't walmart also the company discovered to be taking life insurance policies out on its employees? hmmm >>

After I found the two of them together at his place one night at 1am, Wal-mart almost found themselves the beneficiary of 2 policies!!!

Why the hell would Walmart care what happens between your wife and whoever else? Did you expect a personal phone call from Sam Walton gently breaking the news to you?
