yes, he started the crips and they are the cause of how many deaths?

hundreds most likely

as for the nobel peace prize he didn't get one he was nominated

anyone can nominate you, you can nominate yourself, in this case i heard it was his defense lawer that nominated him, it doesn't mean $hit unitl you see him with the award

and so what if he writes book for children, does that put him on the same plain as mother terrisa?

who's the lady that wrote the harry potter books, she got a large population into reading again, and i don't see her getting special treatment

Heard he sold a whopping three hundred copies of his book too! I'll be sure to buy that one for my kids. </sarcasm>

I think the death penalty is a bad idea for a host of reasons, but to the extent we have one, he has earned it many times over. He has been directly or indirectly responsible for the deaths of thousands of people. I applaud him for his transformation, but that alone doesn't change what he did, or what penalty it justifies.

Interesting thought I heard today. Do you think Schwarzenegger will grant clemency to Tookie to prevent riots in Los Angeles?

You'd think the anti-Death Penalty folks would find a better person to put their weight behind. Not that any person on death row is likely to be a good person but perhaps put their weight behind the individuals that have been shown to be wrongfully accused?

Not quite - there are restrictions.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nobel_Peace_Prize

Nominations for the prize may be made by a broad array of prominent individuals, including former recipients, members of national assemblies, university professors, international judges, and special advisors to the prize committee. In some years as many as 199 nominations have been received. The nominations are kept secret by the committee which asks that nominators do the same. Over time many individuals have become known as "Nobel Peace Prize Nominees", but this designation has no official standing [2]. Nominations from 1901 to 1951 have been released in a database. When the past nominations were released it was discovered that Adolf Hitler was once nominated in 1939, though the nomination was retracted in February of the same year.

So it's not a complete free-for-all, but there are still quite a few nominators.

I disagree...My theory on crime is that most people commit crimes thinking that they won't get caught. They're not thinking about the consequences for the most part

do you know that it costs more to execute him than to keep him in prison for life?

MacBaine: DIE ****** DIE!!!

me: yes i believe he deserves to die, sure he changed, but what once was was and will always be known. he might be tired of getting gang raped, but once out who knows wtf he will do, he has a bad history and he might do it again.

I believe he does DESERVE to die; and I have no issues with capital punishment; however I believe that if he truly is doing as much with curbing gang activity as the news says he is, then he is more valuable alive than becoming a statistic. If he is not executed, he'll remain in jail the rest of his life so it's not like he's gonna go free.

I might suggest an arrangement whereby he is spared; but if he decides to quit his anti-gang crusade, it's off to the chair. (or however they do it these days).

Which is stupid. People get killed with pennies in bullets over dollars in drugs.

Take a page from Homey-G Word-Fo-Shizzle's gangbanging book - shoot him in the stomach and leave him to slowly bleed out and die in hours of agony.

Renting a room at the state pen with a glass window - $100
Case of bullets - $5
Mop & Pail - $20
A Front Row Seat - Priceless.

I'm not gonna read the whole thread so this all may have been said already.

This situation is the entire reason no one should sit on death row for years and years and years. They should be executed immediately upon the judges sentencing.
Maybe after a few years of that then low lifes would not be out doing the things they are doing.
See ya, tooks.

I'm thinking it would serve society best if this guy was locked up for life, not killed. His story is worth more than his death in deterring future people from joining gangs, I'm thinking.

most of that money you speak of is legal fees for all of the appeals death row inmates get to make (which is a crock of sh!t IMO- they should get a finite number of appeals and a deadline set in stone (two years or three years just throwing that out there) and then be done with it...)

seriously, how does it really cost more to kill someone that keep them alive for 20-30 years???

Oh, I'm not saying he's a good guy by any means. I'm just saying he's doing something productive for society and that if we kill him, we'll lose that. As far as the spin, I'm sure it's there but it doesn't negate the fact that he is making a positive impact. A quick search at Amazon.com yields a list of his anti-gang books, targeted primarily at youth. Life in prison is still a very heavy punishment, and he deserves at least that. Hell he deserves death... but anyone who may be dissuaded from joining gangs in the future due to his efforts, doesn't deserve to be denied that benefit because we went and killed him.

If they do end up executing him, I'll still be fine with it... I mean it's a 48/52 split for me.
