I'm looking for a GPU to finish my build but the deal with GPUs right now reminds me of when I was trying to get a PSU, but maybe worse. Wondering if stock and prices will be getting back to normal before end of this year?

I do not feel prices will drop prior to Eth 2.0.

As Eth 2.0 is not planned for this year, I do not feel prices will go back to normal in 2021.

- This sounds about right.

Knock on wood my 1080TI keeps chugging along. No plans to upgrade anytime soon. At this rate it the 5XXX would be my next upgrade.

Wait, demand went up due to COVID-19; and, demand will go up again as countries get back to normal (due to vaccinations, I assume).
So, which is it?

I think the biggest factor in demand is the cryptocurrency prices, much more than covid lockdowns, tariffs or other things. It's much more profitable to run a mining warehouse than it was a year ago. I don't see this going away for a while, since the demand this year is driven by corporations and pension funds who want to show their boards that they are on top of the latest trend.

The article was addressing the whole semiconductor market, not just GPUs.

Demand is going up over time in general. We're not going to start making things with fewer computer chips in the future and every year we find even more products to cram a chip into.

As prices start to fall on the most desired components the number of people willing to pay the lower price increases as well. If Sony can sell this many PS5 consoles when the going rate is $200 over MSRP, imagine how many will get sold when they can supply enough to keep the price at MSRP.

The gods have been kind (2x 2060, 1x 3080, 3070, 3060 caught and 'released' :) ), praise be...also have a 5900x sitting in my NE shuffle cart but gonna let that go unless someone needs it at cost, thankfully looks like Vermeer is approaching GA across the line.GLTA.

Trying to sell outside the FS/T is against the rules.

Well, Asus just hiked RTX 30 prices, again. Their 3070 Strix is now $140 more expensive than 3080FE.

Assuming ETH halves the mining profits in July there is a chance we'll see "normal" GPU prices in 9 months sometime at the end of the year. That is assuming ETH price stays stable and a lot of miners start "giving up" and selling their cards. However if ETH prices double then it's essentially status quo. People often focus on December 2017 when talking about last crypto run up, but what they forget is that it was a whole year in the making peaking in December 2017 - it is possible that we're still in the run up portion of the next crypto bubble. In which case hold on to what you have boys because it's not getting better any time soon.

A friend of mine was hemming on paying such a premium for a GPU (talking 3080 here, to upgrade from ~$700 1080ti from during the last craze) and I just pointed out - do you want it in 2021 or not? I advised just going for a 3090 at this point. The % premium on them over MSRP is lower than the 3080's and I think they'll still be worth more long term as well.

I told him that your current card has a massive premium atm, and if you buy a prebuilt and get anything for the husk - or just install your GPU and sell it as a $1200 gaming PC - you're getting way closer to "retail" pricing as it was.

Since the 3080 is a miner special card now, I think we can all admit that 10GB was the right amount of memory after all. No issues with 4K frame dips when 90% of them are happing chewing on a ~4.2GB eth file.

I think it might get worse before it gets better. If I see something that is a decent deal I will get opportunistic once Ryzen 3 and Gen 11 prebuilts are standard. I can flip some of the older CPUs into those chassis when I resell them.

Who knew that in 2021 we'd be shucking videocards out of prebuilts... :D

The PC gaming market is going to take a massive hit if the supply shortage and price manipulation isn't resolved before year end, or mitigated over the next few years. Sony and Microsoft are adjusting their supply lines, and will be pumping out consoles ten fold before yearend. Nvidia and AMD are going to drowned out by all the console noise and be relegated to the dark ages of the early 2000's pc market.

I don't see cryptocurrency disappearing anytime soon unless they're all banned with the exception of Bitcoin. GPU's are essentially relegated to mining products.

The majority of market is still on the 9XX or 10XX series, and perhaps its ageing very well, but if someone has a choice of a non existent 3XXX or a new overpriced 4XXX series, versus new consoles at $500-800, the choice is simple.

Sony and Microsoft are waiting on AMD, just like everyone else.

I managed to get my hands on an ASUS TUF 3060 Ti today for $649 CAD ($492 USD). The price has since gone up to $729, but they are honouring the price I originally held it at. I put my name on a list about a month ago, and magically, they called me today. I already have an EVGA Ultra XC3 3070 (paid $829 CAD - $628 USD).

I'm considering selling the 3070 and keeping the 3060ti as there is only a 9% difference in performance at 1440p between them. I gain $200 instantly just by selling the (now used) 3070 for exactly what I paid for it. I'm assuming I'll make at least $200 more though. What would you do?

Keep them both, and if need be, build another PC to hold some more GPUs to mine with. :)

I'm running out of PCs at this point! I do have my other son's PC that never gets used, but I would need a new power supply, as his has a very old Thermaltake 430W PSU that doesn't have an 8 pin connector. With the scarcity though, I'm leaning that way (keeping them). I guess my older son could buy it and I could use his 1660 Super in the other son's PC, and maybe sell the 1060 3GB. Probably get $500 for that one ;)

Read an article form early December on pcgamer(?) about don’t buy a card now unless you have to. Inventory should normalize March of 2021.
Wrong....fake news....

I remember those articles. People scoffed at that time that it would take this long. I don't think they were banking on the Eth price getting so high.
