I'm looking for a GPU to finish my build but the deal with GPUs right now reminds me of when I was trying to get a PSU, but maybe worse. Wondering if stock and prices will be getting back to normal before end of this year?

Feel lucky to have managed to get a 3080. This is a first for GPU scarcity from both vendors. I still haven't been able to get a new AMD CPU, OOS instantly.

It's so crazy I am seriously tempted to post up my 5700 xt locally for $450-$500 in the hopes that some will take it off my hands.

I can "make do" with my 290x or the 1070 FE that is coming in the mail tomorrow if I can get that much for my card. I paid $360 for it and I would just hold the funds and wait, somewhat patiently, for an in stock 6800 or even a 6800xt. I can't imagine being in that big of a rush, what with the embarrassment of console riches I've got going on and all I play with my kids is Minecraft (Series X) and Starcraft 2 (PC). I could wait well into Q2, I think.

CP2077 is downloaded and ready to go for Thursday, and it looks like I'll still be playing it on my 1080 Ti with some settings down.
I have time over the holiday to play, and will likely be swamped in the new year with work. At this point I'm probably just going to enjoy what I have and skip this whole gongshow, and look to see how things have settled in the spring.

I want to play that on one of the new cards, but have plenty of other games on my list. I would rather wait 6-12 months until they have fixed the bugs and issues with it anyway. The 1080ti is still good enough for most games at medium-high settings at 4K.

Rumors suggest that things won't even start getting back to normal until March.
I suspect it won't go back to normal until Covid crisis gone. With 2 teen kids I never thought I play game again until retirement, and I never thought I would spend around $800 on a video card.

But due to stay at home situation, I decided to build a gaming PC to play FPS games, again, after 16 years. Now with a working PC using iGPU, I am waiting for 3080 to finish the build. Apparently I am not alone.

Well I mean people can game on a lot less, for much less. Even a 980Ti is fine for 1080p; I've got 3 Bloomfield and 1Gulftwon CPUs from the 2008-2010 era that handle current games pretty much as well as my 2600X with 980Ti/1070/1070Ti .

Tried new egg a few times but could not get one. Newegg gets stock like twice a week, and each time I feel they only have 10 cards for each category. I don't know when can I get one...

It's not just the 30 series. You can't buy anything right now really. Take a look at Newegg, if you look at the new gaming cards they're actually selling, the best cards they currently have in stock are a couple 5700XT at $490 and $470, and a couple 2060s at $400 and $360.

If you absolutely needed a new build now with a top end GPU you could drop $470 on a 5700XT, but wow is that going the depreciate when you drive it off the lot.

I sold an RX580 like 6 months ago for $100 (minus shipping). Little did I know I could have gotten double that.
It is insane how no Turing or Ampure card can even be had for the past two months. Hopefully this drought ends. I am in the market for a 3060 TI but I am not paying more than 110% MSRP for it.

Yeah, the stock situation is even worse than a few months ago due to the BTC price increase. I got a Reverb G2 headset which would benefit a lot from a new card (50-60fps is fine for ordinary games but you really need to hit the refresh rate in VR), but the 3080 and 3090 are well over $1000 and $2000 on third party sites, which is absurd.

Wow, the only GTX 1600 series cards in stock are a GTX 1650 for $167 and a GTX 1660 (non-Super) for $290.

Didn't i call this like way back in the 3090 thread?
That miners were gonna screw us all along with scalpers.
So this time not only do we have the worst shortages on gpu, but add heavy scalpers who can sit at home run bots all the time, plus stimulus checks, plus add miners on top, and its no wonder the scalpers increased the price by about 30% since the cards were released.

I am getting really annoyed tho at the availability of the 5000 ryzen series.
At the rate which AMD is flipping cpu's i think we'll see the 7000 ryzen series before the 5000 series even has time to sufficiently stock shelves.

Although this thread was created with 2020 specifically in mind, I think it's fair to say it's a valid question for 2021 at this point as well.

Assuming that we do see some return to normalcy in 2021, I'm starting to question if it's going to realistically be anytime before August.

Hopefully, with the new U.S. President, at least the previous trade exemptions that expired at the beginning of this year will be reallowed so it helps to bring the prices back down some. I saw the PNY 1660 Super go from $239 to $319, so I was lucky to get an Asus 1660 Super for $239 after the tariff expiration day.

Once we get a vaccine everything will return to normal I was told.

Yeah right. Everyone will still have to wear a mask and socially distance, so its going to be years before we get even close to the old normal. Of course the powers that be want masking and social distancing to be the new normal forever...

What do they even mine on GPUs anymore?

But who knows on availability. Hopefully by summer GPUs are available for more than a few seconds and at near MSRP.
