Do you still use a screen protector for your smartphone?

I stopped buying them when I got an iPhone 4S. Had it for a year with no scratches. Have an iPhone 5 for 1.5 years and no scratches. I try to keep it in a pocket by itself and haven't had any issues. My wife lets her's tumble around in her purse and it's also fine. For me they are pointless now unless your really tough on your phones.
 
I've never used a case or screen protector on any of my smart phones. I keep mine in my pocket and have had zero issues for all of them. The outside backing and edges get scratched and dinged a bit from being dropped and whatnot but I have yet to break or scratch the screen.
 
Never have, never will. Phone goes in the right pants pocket, keys and wallet go in the left pants pocket. Extra change goes in the jacket, or the left pants pocket.
 
Only one I like are very thin tempered glass protectors. I use the Mime Feather glass protectors on all my phones. It's 0.15mm thick and the only ones to not recess the home button much on Samsung phones or an iPhone. Perfectly clear and smooth unlike plastic protectors and basically unnoticeable.

Use the tape hinge method in a steamed up room to avoid dust. Also has no issues with air pockets unlike plastic or film protectors.

Worth it ever since someone put a nice 1" scratch on my 1 month old Note 3, forcing my OCD to buy a new phone.
 
I bought one for my nexus 4 but never put it on. I've had it for a year and haven't scratched it.

$30 is kind of expensive for an expendable item. I like the idea of real glass though.

The one i got was $17. I always almost resell my phones when i upgrade down the line so its worth it for me to try to keep it as mint as possible

If you can deal with an edge, cheaper and thicker glass screen protectors are available. I use cheap glass one plus a chrome home button cover. I get each one (for my S4 and the wife's iPhone 5) for less than $10 a pop on EBay.

My last phone which I still have and am trying to sell has a screen protector. My m7 right now does not have one. I bought a set of halo screen protectors and they were a pain to put on. All of them got screwed up and I ended up throwing them away. Amazon was happy to refund my money though.

I have kept the phone as mint as possible with no scratches on the screen or anywhere else.

I do try to sell my phones later so I keep them as nice as possible.

DUH. Gorilla Glass and other hardened glass is awesome.
It can be scratched.

The whole point that people forget: sand is literally everywhere. You don't have to live by a beach to pick up sand. I somehow have gotten sand-like particles in my pockets all the time, and I too DO only use my right front pockets for phone and phone only.

I've also accidentally dropped said hardened glass phones and developed pits or scratches on the face. We can't all have super-human ability to hold onto things.

Drop your phone on gravel. Let me know how it fares.
Or even any "pebbled" aggregate concrete type surface. There is a ton of quartz all around us, and quartz WILL scratch any hardened glass on the consumer marker right now.
Whenever I've dropped naked phones before, I swear my phone has actually sought out nearby quartz. Maybe I'm unlucky about either how often I've dropped my phone and/or where it gets dropped, or knocked out of my hands for whatever reason.


In other words: life happens. :\

This. Gorilla glass can scratch. Both my N4 and N5 developed microscratches before I finally decided to put on a screen protector on them.
 
Wife uses an Otterbox (The ones that I got from AT&T for $4.00 each). I don't have a smartphone....just a 7 year old flip phone (VX8300).
 
No screen protector. I do use a case though to protect it. Unfortunately, I bought the case too late, as my Nexus 4 developed a crack in the back glass 1.5 months after I bought it. However, it was covered under AmEx's purchase protection. 🙂
 
Had a Spigen glass screen protector that just saved my phone. Was getting ready to go for a run and fumbled trying to get it into my armband. It hit the pavement face down and the protector shattered. Peeled it off, went for my run, and ordered a new one.

Glass protectors are my preference. They're a little thicker, but have been far more durable day to day than the plastic ones.
 
But when I guy by next one you betcha your ass I'll have an ottorbox. I just dropped mine yesterday and put a crack in the glass. I've also lost them outside overnight when it was raining.
 
I never use them because typing is tricky enough as it is. With a screen protector, I would constantly wonder after every typo if it would have happened without the screen protector.

Anyway, I'm considering it now because I can tell that my 5s is doing the same thing as my iPhone 4 -- the oleo-phobic coating is wearing off from excessive (and I do mean "excessive") use. As this happens, the texture becomes variable across different parts of the screen and you can see how some areas accumulate oils more quickly.

I agree actually, I was using a fliphone still till recently.

Only reason I still am not is my wife wanted a new phone and I took her old one over.

And she shattered the screen on it on about the second day she had it, but I told her to suck it up and live with it as it's still functional.

She tried to hide it from me at first till I saw her using it and went WTF.

It's a freaking phone, I might never own a smartphone till they become mandatory for a phone someday.

"Life happens" is the main reason I still use a screen protector. Rather have a safe but ugly screen than pay again and again for screen repairs or a new phone.
