I agree actually, I was using a fliphone still till recently.

Only reason I still am not is my wife wanted a new phone and I took her old one over.

And she shattered the screen on it on about the second day she had it, but I told her to suck it up and live with it as it's still functional.

She tried to hide it from me at first till I saw her using it and went WTF.

It's a freaking phone, I might never own a smartphone till they become mandatory for a phone someday.

Why did she try to hide it? It sounds like there is something wrong with that relationship.

I just use a nice simple case with a flip cover. Keeps the phone nice and clean as well as scratch free while keeping the phone accessible.

it doesn't look ugly and I'm sure it's saved my phone many scratches. I still have the original protective film on the back of my phone.

Probably because we've been married 20+ years and she knew I'd call her a twit for cracking a two day old phone, after she convinced me to start using her old one so she could buy it.

You seem to be the wrong person to ask about relationship advice, obviously.

Really? That's quite a leap from that statement. lmao

Yes it was.

Have another question ?

I buy nice screen protectors and have the salesperson put it on (I have installed them in the past, but with nice protectors comes free installation). I also use a minimal case.

When it comes time to sell my old phones, they are in mint condition.

If I purchase a model with the plastic screen I will, but the last two models have the Gorilla glass so they do not scratch easily at all. I know about the pressure treatment explosion-by-small-area-rupture problem but I haven't had any "perfect hits" to manifest the problem *knock on wood*

yes actually.
one can never be too nonchalant about their screens. they get these minute scratches and smudges that just obstruct the visibility of the screen. And changing the screen is really expensive too. So I just buy cheap screen protectors from ebay and keep my screen safe. I'm using Gearmaxx screen protector right now and I'm really happy with the quality; It doesn't mess with the visibility of my screen and its scratch resistant property seems to be working because there are no scratches on my screen. And they shipped for free too!!

I have scratched Gorilla Glass. I don't use a protector. I have 6 iPhones in my household now. iPhone 5s for me, my financee, her oldest son and daughter. iPhone 5 for her 11 year old son and my old iPhone 4s for her oldest son's friend that just lost his father and found out his mom had inoperable brain cancer a year ago :( They share that phone.

For me, I use no case. My financee, her oldest son and daughter I put in lifeproof nuuds with a screen protector from the kit. The 11 year old and her oldest son's friend Otterbox Defenders.

I've never used a screen protector.
My first smart phone was a blackberry about 6 years ago. By the time I got a new phone, that blackberry screen was scratched to hell.
Next was an iPhone and the only time it ever got even a slight scratch was from dropping it on asphalt.
I've had a Droid Razr Maxx HD for a little over a year and the screen is almost like new.

I paid for a touch screen,.. I am going to use a touch screen and use it carefully.

I am not sure how and why people kick around their electronics like tin cans down a road. Accidents will happen - understood.

But, I look at some of these devices and it seems they get thrown down a rocky hill and then have boulders rolled over them. Or, they place their screens face down on a pile of rusty nails and broken glass and pretend they are DJs mixing music.

I sell my phones all the time and never use cases or screen protectors. Simple rules to go by are nothing shares the same pocket with the phone and remember that it's not a cheap toy, that's all there is to it. I just don't see the appeal in covering up the phone, it's like buying a new couch and keeping it wrapped in plastic.

Considering the fact I never view video on my phone, a screen protector is well worth it.

What do your phones look like after 2 years?

MotionMan

No real problems. My SIIX had some dings on the corners from dropping it multiple times and my Note 3 which I have had since January has a little chip on the corner but that is with extremely heavy daily usage and just carrying them around in my pocket.

I use one.

Coworker of mine said he actually uses car paint sealant. Not really sure I'd use that because the layer of protection is so thin, and wears away over time.
