To me, the advantage of an actual paper and ink newspaper is largely that there's nothing to motivate you other than your own inclinations. Sure, there are ads, there's soft porn that tries to grab your attention, there's stupid headlines (one of my pet peeves is the predilection of journalists to deal in cliches particularly in article titles and headlines). However, there are no popups, no cookies, no adware/malware, no offers to subscribe that assault you from the newspaper or whatever goddamn entity they have struck up some behind the scenes deal. I feel a lot more in control than when I'm trying to ascertain news online, which to me always seems to be full of gotchas and annoyances. Online, you are distracted a dozen ways and each of them offers another dozen, ad infinitum!
Now, I know that my local newspaper is not going to be the best source for unbiased info, it so often only hints at the real depth of information concerning the subject matter. I read between the lines. I get the feeling in reading the paper that it's a huge world and I'm only getting a snapshot by reading the paper, and I think that's a good thing. I certainly don't think for a second that I'm up to speed on current events by virtue of my experiences reading my daily newspaper.
