Nice work on your lifestyle change. (Not a diet. :)) And for those calling it a diet, if it's something that you can keep up indefinitely and you're not restricting yourself, it's not a diet.

1000 calories is very unhealthy and you are going to put yourself into starvation mode.

My wife(works in a very large hospital) has worked directly with cardiac specialists that help people change their lifestyles and eating habits. Even people that are grossly obese are put on diets that are 1200 calories or more. Anything less is just not good.

You really should be taking in around 1500-1800 if you want to lose weight. A guy your size probably needs 2300-2500 just to maintain. Even at 1500-1800 you are 700-1000 calories below your needs.

No, I gain weight eating anymore than I do now. I am 5'7" 125lbs and I dont need alot to keep me going.
I just need to up the cardio and get a little more protien.
Don't get me wrong, I like being small. I don't want to be big and muscular. But I do have a decent build for my size.

You can keep saying you are fine at 1000 calories but you arent. You probaly really arent at 1000 then.

Well thats after exercise. I have a snack too sometimes at night. Maybe about 200 calories. I try count them every day.
But you are right, every now and again I go out to eat and I cannot count those calories.
I still lose weight though. I expect that to change this Christmas. Just too much good food to pass up.

diet a : food and drink regularly provided or consumed b : habitual nourishment c : the kind and amount of food prescribed for a person or animal for a special reason.

if you go by a or b, diet is simply what you eat. and you changed that. that is how I view diet. but c is what is used more commonly... i'm going on a diet.... yada yada yada.

whatever it is, good job. i tried.. i'm failing.. heh.. soda is killing me. that and food is spensive.

It's not that easy. When I was a freshman in college, I ate all of the junk food I wanted (fast food burgers every day). I never went above my target weight.

Now I'm a Junior and normally healthy meals are totally ruining my weight. I can't eat nearly as much junk food or I'll become huge o_O

If losing weight were as simple as you say, then America would not have an obesity problem dude :p Every person is different

That's the other reason I'm doing this. It's a pretty cheap way to live.

I completely disagree. I don't think most of America even goes to the levels I do. THAT is why we're overweight.

Morning 3-4 eggs whites or 1 lean pocket ultra or a protien shake and a cup of black coffee with splenda.
Lunch 2 lean pocket ultras and 2 diet pepsis/cokes.
Dinner 2 lean pocket ultras and water or diet pepsi/coke.

Do you know how what eating all the processed food will do to your body? Seriously, just get a Foreman grill and one of those big bags of frozen chicken. Steam some veggies and cook up some rice. Also, cut back on the diet soda, too much of it and its no better than regular soda.

losing weight IS that simple ...

people are just lazy and do not care. every single person who is over weight is over weight because of one reason ...

laziness

on their own part (or parents part if its a fat kid). they are too lazy to cook healthy meals, they are too lazy to exercise, or they are too lazy to even educate themselves as to how to eat properly. it all comes down to laziness, and i agree that america is getting obese for this exact reason, because they are all becoming lazy, and IMO, technology is playing a big part in everyone becoming lazy. regardless, the blame still goes on the invidual.

Congrats

Funny I had 1.5 pizza a few weeks ago that clocked in about 1300 calories, 60g fat, 60g protein and other. It is a good thing I train and I eat sensibly 98% of the time :). I just want some pizza at times!

What will happen with too much processed food?
I have a George Forman grill. I just hate to cook just for myself.
And I love my diet sodas. They are way better for you than regular sodas IMO.

Take a look at all the extra chemicals added to your food to preserve it, these are also going into your body. With the soda it's the same thing, the only natural thing in soda is water. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspartame

This summer here was my diet/exercise routine:

-Work all day moving furniture from 8-3

-Replace all previous fast food choices with chicken Subway sandwhiches
(I have a weak spot for fast food, so I just changed restaurant chains since I couldnt cut it out entirely, :)

= loss of 20 lbs. I went from a flabby 185 to a fit 165. height is 5'9"

The best way to lose weight is control calories. No carb or protein crap. Its plain and simple, consume less calories and burn more calories and you will lose weight. You can eat all you want, but then you have to excercise more.

you need to eat enough protein though while you are dieting, or else you will lose more muscle mass than you want to. You want your lost pounds to be from losing fat, not muscle.
