Anyone know (Hypothetically of course) how to change serials if, say, someone wanted to go legit by buying xp pro without the messy re-install?

I had a few free keys of various Windows 2000 versions and a WinXP pro version. Had a couple install disks.. But I never realy used them for anything. Probably threw them away accidently when cleaning out old cds.

Originally they were legal, but since I finished those classes it would be technically illegal to install them now anyways. Not that I care a whole lot.

I do, it's built into the Activation Wizard. Just select activate by telephone and then click change key or whatever it is. They let you do that if they think you have a legal copy, but the key doesn't work for some strange reason.

Don't use Windows XP. I see no reason to change from Win2k pro (legit, of course)

Yes not because I wanted to support Microsloft but because my copy was given to me. =0

If you are going from corp. to retail, and don't want to call MS to tell them, you can simply reinstall over the corporate version to update it. It takes some time, but its not messy - you don't have to reinstall apps, etc...

You can simplify that question to "do you think anyone really cares if they steal" and leave off the part about "from Microsoft." Guess what the answer is. :p

Valkerie, your links are 0 for 3 for a home user trying to get a legit WinXP license going, even OEM. First one's just a CD, no license. Second one's academic. Third one's not legit, having been separated from its Dell.

Yet another reason to go to linux. Don't have to worry about licences, client licences, laws, requirements, fine print, etc etc etc.
