Do you have a badge for work?

At my job, we're all given badges that I guess we are supposed to wear. Its completely separate from our keycards that we use to get in, so I gave up on wearing mine after a day or two. Today I noticed that the only people that wear them are the ones who generally act more important than they are.

So my question is....do you have a work badge and do you wear it?

Bonus nerd points for wearing it on a snatch off lanyard.

We have them. Our badges (like a lot of places) also act as electronic door keys so you can't really go anywhere in the building without it unless maybe you're with a group of people.

Yes, and we're required to wear it. It allows us access to different buildings and floors (not everyone has the same access). It also has to be inserted into our laptops to log into them.

We don't have that yet, thankfully. We do have to use those silly USB tokens to use VPN when out of the office though. At one point our drive encryption also used a USB token so we had to keep track of two separate tokens to log on. Ugh.

Our badges are also our magnetic key cards, so yes, I wear it. We're not required to wear it, but I'm confident that if it wasn't attached to my body I would forget it when I needed it at least four times a day.

our badges double as our magnetic key cards.

when I worked in our data center, I had to have it displayed (and it was convenient since I was going in and out of locked areas constantly)... now that I work in the office, I just keep it in my wallet. after I enter the building in the morning, I rarely have to use it again.

ping...ping...ping...

that's another thing....I love the people who scan their keycard even when the door is open. This is topped only by the people who are too busy to be bothered with taking their card out of their wallet and insist on trying to get their ass up to the slightly above waist height card reader.

some places require you to swipe even when the door is open, for personnel accountability.

No. That was my radar going off.

I realize that...us, not so much. Our IT isn't even advanced enough to be able to track down our Windows login time let alone keycard scans.

And now I see why Olds' RBM radar is going off.

We have a badge and an access card. Never worn the badge, keep the access card in my wallet and just swipe that.

We're required to scan our keycards whether or not the door is open.

Yes, I have one, and yes, I wear it. Its required. Its also policy to scan your badge to enter a door even if its already open.

We have had smart card ID badges for about four years now. Last year we finally had them activated. They are supposed to be used to swipe open electronic door locks, log in to computers, etc. Someday, the company will buy card readers and electronic door locks I suppose.

Yes, all employees at my job must wear their badges and it must be in plain site. They are also used to get through security.

We also have badges that double as ID and key card access for doors and sign in. So yes, I do wear mine all the time, and you better not fucking lose yours or you are in for a world of hurt.
