Yea, well, run that by ornery. 😉

Do you hate Fords?

Nope, have owned 3 Rangers & have on 03' F150.

Honestly any current model of auto manufactured nowdays compared to those made when I started driving are so much better, I can't believe some folk's attitude towards one brand or another.

No I don't hate em. Three generations before me worked there (my father when he was a teen, his father (my grandfather) as an engineer and his father (my great grandfather) as some sort of floor manager 🙂 If Ford can put food on the family table I can damn well support them back.

Now I don't agree with the reduction of warranties--that is like saying "we don't trust ourselves".

I'm going to buy a 90-93 LX 5.0 when I have enough money to spare. There is no replacement for that displacement 😉

Don't bother me about it. I've got no use for a FWD anything, import or domestic.

Bought my wife's '99 G.Marquis in October 2002. Only thing it's needed, was rotors turned and brake pads, and that was only to cure brake squeal. Pads had plenty of meat left on them.

My '94 Town Car was purchased at the same time. It's had lower radiator hose, plugs and wires installed since then. BFD! 😕

Been buying big RWD 'Fords' since 1982. If they ever start giving me problems, I'll jump ship. I don't consider tires, batteries and exhaust systems to be 'problems', so this is what I'll keep buying...

I don't hate Fords. But, with the amount of cost cutting I would not buy one.

Quality is Job 1.

Not!

I have a Love/Hate thing with Ford Cars, I think their trucks are pretty good. I inherited my Dad's '88 EscortLX (1.9 3 speed Automatic) when he died. that thing was a LEMON! saw the junkyard with barely 81,00 miles.. 3 Transmissions, 4 Starters, 3 Water Pumps, 2 Computers, 2 Radiators, peeling paint, broken seats, etc... (all before I got it) an absolute peice of JUNK! I had it all of 6 months, and the tranny went, then the starter, replaced both cheaply. It failed emissions testing, so I junked it. My Mother still swears that was a GREAT car.

Other Fords we own-
'97 Ford Contour Sport, relatively low miles (92,000) had no major problems so far.
1990 E-350 Van, 235,000 Miles, No Major, or out of the ordinary problems either, just usual wear and tear. it's not actually my personal Van, it's belongs to my business.
My Fiance has her 2001 Escape (she bought it used 18 Months ago), and I'm not too thrilled with that either. Had 2 Fuel Pumps, 2 Master Cylinders, numerous Airbag problems, Seatbelt problems, Water Pump, and the Windshield Wiper Moter died as well. It's has also been in for 4 seperate safety recalls. This thing is a HEADACHE!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA

If it really is made by Kia then you might have a Mitsu motor anyway - some Kias use Mitsu motors.
It has a Mazda 1.3L engine, similar to the 1.8L Ford used in the Escort GTs.

As of late, the P71 Crown Victoria has started sucking. The 2004 model year may bring it back to respectability, with it's fire surpression system and all, though (Wouldn't it just be easier to move the gas tank midship?)

The entire police fleet has started sucking as a result, since the Caprice Classic doesn't exist anymore, and Chevy's Police offering is the freaking Impala.
Why does the P71/P72 Ford Full-size car suck exactly? What has Ford done to the 2004 Model year that will make that big of a difference?

P71/P72 are the Crown Victoria fleet vehicle packages used mostly by police departments and taxi companies.

I dislike them all.

an added note, I don't consider the "SHELBY" Cobra a ford. it's a shelby IMO. not a ford.

other than that car I hate ford.

the GT40 is meh...sweet car but i'd never own one because of the fact it's a ford.

just personal hate.

Most of you know that I worked at several Ford Dealerships and even worked for the Ford Motor Company for a few years. I can?t say I hate any one-car company, but have been know to dislike a few car models from various manufactures.

One thing most of you have to remember is once you have you car or truck repaired by a non- Ford Dealership with non-Ford parts it?s no longer a ?Ford vehicle.? Even though the base design stays the same the vehicle has been modified from factory conditions. This does not mean Ford hasn?t built some problematic vehicles, but mostly what I have read in this thread could be related to the repair shop or the components installed more than the company than built the vehicle.

Each car company has had their problems; Ford just seems to scream bad vehicles because some of the more recent publicity brought about with the Firestone Tire Recall and the Tread Act. Ford is the most proactive towards recalls and various other customer satisfaction programs, which keeps their name in the paper. Some car companies, cough Honda cough, have been know to hide recalls until sued by the federal government to take care of the problem. Or even have ?secret recalls? like Toyota?s engine sludging problem, where the consumer was only taken care of after calling Toyota the threatening a lawsuit.

I'm in the process of buying a 2000 Contour SVT so I guess I don't hate them. Also my dad just sold his 1987 Ford F-150 that he bought new, still running strong, and starts right up. We drove that truck one summer vacation from New York to Alaska and back again. I can't remember how many thousands of miles that is but it was a heck of an odyssey. Most of the way through Canada we were on the Alaskan highway too and let me tell you, when they say highway, they are using that term VERY loosely. Most of the time it was unpaved rock and dirt. That truck made it without a problem. Not even so much as a flat tire! So there's a testament to Ford engineering for you.

95 F-150 bought in 99 with 100K km on it. Sitting at 140K now and other than oil changes and one tuneup it only has had $200 worth of repairs needed. Can't complain.

Their trucks are superior, but I wouldn't buy a domestic car if my life depended on it. (Ford, Chevy, Dodge...)

Honest question; If the repair company is 3rd party (non-ford), but still uses OEM parts what is it considered?
So far the response seems to be hot or cold; as in, I love my car or they are bane the of me. 😛

Fuel tank fires spawned from rear end collisions. Minor accidents like those are a way of life for cops. The engine has also been toned down since 1996 to meet pollution standards or for fuel economy or some such nonsense.

2004 (Or maybe it's 2005) includes a fire surpression system to address the more pressing issue of minor accidents totalling vehicles. When you operate a fleet of hundreds of vehicles, it's a lot easier to do body work on a few than it is to write off a few.

Yes, I have a strong disliking of Fords.

My first, and still (barely) running is a Ford. Lived in a family of Ford zealots. I was proud to get my Grand Marquis the day I got it.

~100,000 miles, alternator fails, replaced alternator.
~120,000 miles, transmission blows. Left myself and wife stranded on the median of an interstate. (Transmission rebuild + torque converter replaced)
~122,000 miles, front power windows stop working, must be forced up/down with hand.
~124,000 miles, back power locks begin to fail, not locking. Must be locked manually.
~125,000 miles, water pump fails, timing chain failed shortly after.
~130,000 miles, developed electrical short, killed battery every time the car was turned off. (Radio was found to be problem, and removed.)
~130,000 miles, alternator catches fire, replaced alternator again, and replaced some of the destroyed wiring.

Freaking Ford has cost me plenty of cash since I bought it. It still runs like a dog, transmission slips, pings like a mother on 87 octane gasoline, gets about 12mpg in town, 22mpg on highway with a wholloping 150hp. I've found some people interested in buying it for $1k or less, and frankly, I'll be glad to get rid of it.
137,405 on my '91 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. Had a tranny rebuild a few months back, the only serious work it's ever had done.

I've owned several G. Marquis', though none from that vintage, since they were smaller than I cared for. Owned a few Town Cars as well. Only had to screw with one of the window clutches (not the motor itself) in all those four doors, and none of the door locks. Never replaced an alternator, though I wouldn't care if I did, because they're only $40.00 rebuilt.

Trannys need to be flushed every 70K. If I replaced one, and it acted up after less than 30K, I would blame the rebuilder.

If my car was pinging, I'd fix it. Could be running lean, or the timing could be off, but either way, it ain't right.
Err....

137k, and the "only" thing you've had to rebuild is the tranny? :Q Sorry.... but that isn't reliability in my book. 🙁

For the record, Ford does make some good trucks.. But if I was going to get a truck, it would be a smaller Toyota or Nissan pickup, or if I needed something larger, a Chevy or GM 1/2 ton.

Shrug... "If you haven't looked at Ford lately, look again.".. I'll look again when they give me a reason to.

IMO, an engine/tranny should be able to go at least 150k with moderate abuse, 200k with normal use and 250k with light use/above average care.

Kinda off topic, my Aunt & Uncle were down for a visit the other day, and we drove around in their Chrysler Concorde. Pretty nice car.

They seem to like them; they have two.. the oldest one since 1994. It has 174k on it, with just regular maintenance.. although that is with a lot of highway miles.

biggest problem I've noticed is the drivers side chair, after time, tends to lean to the right so much so you might as well be sitting sideways.

I don't care for them. I like chev's. Im down with the shelby though. oh yumm

1991 Ford Festiva. I went from Slidell, LA to Bedford, IN, which is 751 miles on 15 gallons of gas, which is 50 mpg.

🙂

haha. as CraigRT pointed out, this car was not made by ford. you have the koreans to thank for your car's reliability. ford just slapped their badge on it. i do see a lot of these still on the road, so kudos to kia. case in point: ford eventually replaced this car with the "fiesta." In the last couple years, i haven't seen a single one on the road. i think they all kicked the the bucket already.

the one actual ford that i've seen that seems to last is the f-body mustangs. i had a friend who had one with like 250,000 on it, and it was more or less in decent shape, although it had to go to the shop a lot. it got totalled, which is the fate that probably awaits most mustangs.

i wouldn't own a ford because of their crappy fit/finish, poor reliability, and ugly styling. but the same goes for many other manufacturers, fords aren't the only cars i wouldn't buy. i don't think there is any company out there that makes the perfect car for me, but there's degrees of suckiness and ford is way up on the suckiness list.
