Just got back from having a late breakfast, by myself. I always feel weird/like a loser when I go to a restaurant alone. But that is far outweighed by the fact that I do not cook at all (hate cooking with a passion) and it's relatively inexpensive for one person to eat out.

Your turn.

EDIT: In this thread, "restaurant" means a "sit-down" place with waiter service.

If by restaurant you mean places where you have waiters who hand you menus then no, never alone. That would be like going to the movie theater alone.

Seeing as how the guest I am staying in only has a microwave and a hot plate, I tend to eat out far more than I should. I agree that it is fairly inexpensive for just me. I feel awkward as well, but meh. Some days its nice to have a 15 minute conversation with that smoking hot blonde who works at Chilis though. 😉

I never do that

HOWEVER, I would.

I can give 2 shits about what other people think about me. I will go alone to a restaurant/movies and concert........whatever I feel like doing.

Heck, I would actually prefer to go alone vs with a friend. But I would prefer to be with the wife vs alone.

Going with a co worker/someone I know would be my last/worst choice.

so to sum it up, order of preference
- with wife
- alone
- with friend
- with co worker/someone I know

But I also like quiet/peace UNLESS it's the company of someone I really like/love. I haven't been fortunate enough in my life to have a friend that I really like/love (probably a good thing, I like it this way).

only to fast food joints. i do it at work if no one else wants to go out. better than getting food and coming back and eating at your desk. but that is if i don't bring food to work, otherwise i eat at my desk.

sometimes on the weekend i will get fast food and eat it myself in the restaurant if i'm going somewhere else right after. otherwise i bring it home.

never ate at a "sitdown" restaurant myself before though.

I don't have a problem with it, but I seldom do it. If I eat out, it's usually to eat with someone else. Otherwise, I'll just make my own food at home.

Yeah. I have no problem with a breakfast places like Denny's etc. I just sit at the bar.

Otherwise, no, I don't like it.

Yes, all the time.

In fact I will likely be back East on my own in September and I am looking at some fancy restaurants I can go to. I love food and restaurants, so going to them whether on my own or with others is something I always enjoy doing.

How about a sit-down buffet place? They have waiters that bring you drinks but there's no menu.

I go to that place by myself every few weeks.

Used to all the time when I traveled for a prior job. Still do on occasion when I have overnight trips for my current one. No big deal. Especially now with smart phones I can cruise the internet with while waiting.

sure.

there are times when im out and want dinner. i have no problem going somewhere and having a meal by myself.

At a sit down place where you have to wait for food? I avoid it. If I can get down to business at a buffet, etc I don't really care.

When I used to work out of town I often ate alone at restaurants for the peace and quiet. I'd also drive thru and take my fast food to the park or someplace with a nice view, where I'd read a book and just chill for an hour.

Last week I spent 30 minutes kicking it in a park just watching the clouds go by. It was the best 30 minutes of my day.

Rarely, I like having a conversation while enjoying a meal. The most awkward feeling was when I ate alone at a restaurant when it was empty with no customers, the owners / servers kept staring at me as well.

I should have added that I try and sit at the bar when I do.

I was going to mention that.. when I have I've always sat at the bar. Going alone isn't my first choice but as had been mentioned when you're out of town alone you don't have a lot of options.
