Talapia steamed whole in a foil wrapper with spring vegetables, lemon wedges, and cracked pepper is one of my favorite dishes 🙂

Sounds efficient.

On a more serious note, I heard farmers use chicken shit to fertilize corn fields so I'm not eating corn anymore either.
I bet you can grow corn in a garbage bin too! ecause all garbage bins have trash in them, or were very recently used for garbage and they were certainly never cleaned. The link for that takes you to an article on aquaponics. 🙄

It's not two paragraphs down I had to stop at this.

When its diet consists of manure, however, it's basically like feeding them salmonella and E.coli.

This is what passes for journalism these days?

I ate it when it first became popular. Once I did a little reading about it, how its raised and where its from I try to avoid it. If I have to eat farm-raised fresh water fish I'd rather have catfish from the US.

I used to see catfish all the time in my supermarket fish section but I can't remember seeing it for quite awhile. I don't know why.

My Dad has been raising them for some time now, down in FL. I can guarantee you he doesn't feed them pig shit and cow brains or whatever.

Prepare to see more and more fish that were once considered trash replacing today's over-fished choices.

I remember when halibut was so common that it was basically the default for fish-n-chips. Then it was Cod..now it's Pollock.

Can't wait for the Wendys Fish Filet ads in 2030 telling us how great goldfish taste.

That Chinese jumping fish(can't remember what it's called :^D ) is supposed to taste pretty good, and they're a nuisance over here. Course, people say tilapia tastes good too, so I'd have to try it for myself, but I'm all about eating invasive species. Get two fish with one line :^P

Tilapia are fish that has become hugely popular in the US and elsewhere recently. China is the worlds largest exporter by far and if you buy tilapia in the US you are probably getting Chinese or Viet Nam raised fish.

Tilapia has been in the news since it is, apparently, fed pig, cow and chicken poop in China and elsewhere. See links:

Do you buy and eat tilapia? Has the news of how they are raised changed your eating habits?

Yes, I will still buy & eat tilapia. I know far too much about the food industry already, so this isn't news to me. Having severe food allergies, I've had to learn entirely too much about the horrible underpinnings of our food system. Honey has been in the news, and this isn't even the worst stuff about what we call "honey":

It's the cheapest fish at the market and all fish taste the same after they are fried.

Yup. The only exceptions are salmon (which has a pretty unique flavor & is usually better pan-seared or grilled) and tuna (which I either eat canned, in sushi, or very rarely as a charred/raw steak).

I eat the Costco trident brand panko breaded tilapia as a snack. Best 'fish sticks' I've found that are convenient. As a meal at home, I rarely eat tilapia. I usually stick to sockeye Salmon, king salmon, black cod, porgy from the store or stripped bass, croaker, kingfish, bluefish, spot, rainbow trout, and other various pan fish that I catch myself.

Yep. Farmed salmon are fed pellets to keep their flesh pink. No thanks!

Ocean salmon eat tiny crustaceans which is what gives them their reddish color. So, if that's how your salmon got their color its a good indication of deliciousness.

I'm not sure what they put in pellets to make farmed salmon pink. Didn't Perdue chickens use to advertise they fed their chickens marigolds to give the flesh its yellowy color?
