I eat the Costco trident brand panko breaded tilapia as a snack. Best 'fish sticks' I've found that are convenient. As a meal at home, I rarely eat tilapia. I usually stick to sockeye Salmon, king salmon, black cod, porgy from the store or stripped bass, croaker, kingfish, bluefish, spot, rainbow trout, and other various pan fish that I catch myself.

the trident brand fish products are stellar for that type of fish.

Ocean salmon eat tiny crustaceans which is what gives them their reddish color. So, if that's how your salmon got their color its a good indication of deliciousness.

I'm not sure what they put in pellets to make farmed salmon pink. Didn't Perdue chickens use to advertise they fed their chickens marigolds to give the flesh its yellowy color?

Whatever this stuff is I guess...

Farmed salmon, however, aren’t fed crustaceans. Instead, they eat dry pellets that look like dog food. According to the Atlantic Canada Fish Farmers Association, salmon chow includes ingredients such as “soybean meal, corn gluten meal, canola meal, wheat gluten and poultry by-products.” Carotenoids, which are also essential for regular growth, can also be added to help give the fish its distinctive color.

Tilapia has been in the news since it is, apparently, fed pig, cow and chicken shit in China and elsewhere. See links:

How would you know? many things are sent via other countries like Mexico and Canada, not to mention food at restaurants. Its impossible to keep Chinese crap out of your plate all together.

That and they use schemes to obscure where things are from all the time. Easy to do, throw a few lobbying bucks around and you can get congress to relabel the color of the sky as yellow. The chicken nugget processing thing is the most recent news example I can think of.

I think most imitation crab meat is tilapia. There's a lot of that going around, so yeah probably.

I grew up on a farm and never heard of anything like this so I was about to reply and rip you a new one. Then I thought I should google first and found out this is real. That is disgusting and I had no idea it was going on.
