Go read about the insecticides and pesticides and fertilizers that are not allowed or regulated in US, and see if China has any such regulations.

How would you know? many things are sent via other countries like Mexico and Canada, not to mention food at restaurants. Its impossible to keep Chinese crap out of your plate all together.
I eat whatever and am thankful I'm not starving in Africa.i try and buy only locally sourced produce and meats. Very rarely do i go to restaurants.
I'll worry about it when people actually get sick from eating this allegedly questionable tilapia.
Frankly, I bet that if you eat tilapia everyday as the main protein you're likely going to be healthier than the average American.
The thought of eating tilapia raw (for use in sushi) just blows my mind. Are you srs, or did you just buy the "sashimi grade tilapia" for use in steam tilapia (ie asian style)?
I don't eat farmed fish
I mostly only eat salmon. and herring

Most salmon is farmed including much of the "wild caught." The problem is there are few standards on fish and seafood outside the U.S. and little enforcement. Often there is nothing but the word of the company selling the fish to go on.
iirc salmon that is raised in pens on the open ocean and eat processed food pellets don't have to be called "farmed". It's really the same as farmed but kept in the ocean and it doesn't have the flavor nor the fatty acids known to be healthy.
At least that's what I remember.
"Atlantic" Salmon = farmed.
Any species-specific salmon or "Wild Alaskan" salmon is going to be real, although as someone pointed out, you are trusting the person supplying you the information.
If I am snobby about something, salmon is probably it. King or Silver for me if it is available, don't even try Pink aka "Dog" salmon. Even the grizzlies ignore it.
Do the people who say they won't eat anything from china believe it is a chinese plot to poison America/rest of the world or is it just a belief that anything made in china is dangerous period?
I only ask b/c there's a billion-plus of them, so apparently whatever they produce doesn't kill too many folks....(unless they are eating something different)
Here are some reasons why people get worried about Chinese products/food:
The government warned consumers on Friday to avoid using toothpaste made in China because it may contain a poisonous chemical used in antifreeze.

2008 Chinese milk scandal
The 2008 Chinese milk scandal was a food safety incident in China, involving milk and infant formula, and other food materials and components, adulterated with melamine.
By November 2008, China reported an estimated 300,000 victims,[1] with six infants dying from kidney stones and other kidney damage, and an estimated 54,000 babies being hospitalized.[2][3] The chemical appeared to have been added to milk to cause it to appear to have a higher protein content. In a separate incident four years before, watered-down milk had resulted in 13 infant deaths from malnutrition.[4]
