I know what the overall statistics are, at least regarding firearms, but I was curious about other stuff as well. Mostly interested in the poll data, but feel free to talk it up if you want.

I do not carry anything and see no reason why I would ever need to do so.

After hearing reports of gangs randomly assaulting people at gas stations, I do everytime I go out. Then again the gang members are 3 steps up and have autos.

I carry a leatherman knife, for both personal protection and for utility. My wife carries pepper spray. I would carry a firearm, but I live in MD.

Glock 26. It has nothing to do with being paranoid, and everything to do with how the world is today. To think that you will never encounter a bad situation is to be ignorant.

I'm 36 and havent come close to anything like that.
I have 4 brothers and sisters (all older), nor have they nor their significant others. Nor have any of their children. Or my aunts or uncles, grandmas or grandpas.

To assume that you will at some point in your life encounter a situation bad enough to warrant the need of a gun, IS being paranoid.

I guess wearing a seat belt is being paranoid as well? I'd much rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

There are 2 types of people. Those that carry something for protection, and those that will after they are a victim.

I didn't carry when I was assaulted at work. And I worked in the upscale part of the city.

Just because you live in a "quiet" area doesn't mean you are immune to violent crime.
We always hear news stories about how it was such a peaceful neighborhood until the home invasion and the family was killed.

that's a completely ignorant statement to make; all it takes is 1 event to change everything. Keeping a gun in the house is a smart decision to make (home intruder, etc.) and carrying some level of protection with you is a good idea as well.

It has nothing to do with paranoia; it has everything to do with being prepared for that 1 event. People are crazy these days.

Yep, have to agree with this.

Some people refuse to see the truth in that there are people out there that would kill you for your wallet and not have a second thought about it.
I was lucky to survive my encounter. After that moment I decided I'm not going to risk my life based on luck. I'm going to increase my chances of survival how ever I can.
