no, it actually makes it *less* credible in my eyes. they weren't various chapters that were then brought together for the first time, it was more like a work in progress that was authored by different people. and the church has done and altered some questionable things. and as goes with most stories, the more time that you have to ponder/refine them, the better and more realistic they become.
let me drop some shrooms. if i see the devil it's blashpemy, if i see god it's devine. <shrugs> go figure. either way, humanity NEEDS something to believe in, and from the beginnings of time and the furthest reaches of the earth, most religions have begun the same way.
