Do you believe hanging to be an acceptable form of the death penalty?

Personally I think it is a bit outdated, and perhaps a bit cruel, what do you think?

Cruel and outdated, but more to the point; i don't think it will achieve anything other than dramatic new levels of bloodshed in 'eye-rak' :p

Far better to lock the bastard up forevar, thus denying him martydom/support/etc...

I support any form of execution that results in a death. If someone has acted heinous enough to warrant the death penalty, they deserve no niceties or concessions as far as I'm concerned. Kill the bastard, and the more it hurts the better.

Poke a hole in his abdomen and cut his intestine. Slowly put out his guts. Shove bamboo shoots underneath his nails. While he's still alive, cut away a portion of his skull using electroshocking random parts of the brain.

A reflection of their judicial system maybe?

I think the sooner they execute him the sooner Iraq can move on and deal with their problems. As long as he is alive the Sunni-led portion of the insurgency will continue to hope for his return to power.

I hope they hang him in a public place and that a video of it ends up on the internet.

Cruel? I dunno.

I mean, if they use too little rope and he fings around for five minutes while suffocating, that might not be too nice. Otherwise, his neck breaks and his head either pops off or it doesn't.

The end result is the same in any case.

I imagine a bullet would be cheaper, faster, and less trouble.

..cost effective and supports the rope industry. They use hand loomed hemp rope in the middle east. :p

Works for me. In this case it's a significant use of the death penalty: Hangings are for criminals, firing squads are for soldiers. The court is just expressing what they consider Hussein to be.

Can you still be hung in the US if you request it? Seems like there was one or two states where they still had hanging as an option, but they hadn't done it in a while.

I wouldn't call it cruel, outdated perhaps. If you use the right length of rope, it's instant and the person won't suffocate or be decapitated. There's a formula for it based on height and weight.

Saw a special on the history channel about the history of the gallows. Interesting stuff :)

I didn't know that the US still used hanging.

It doesn't really matter to me how they die as long as it is cheap...which is a real problem with our current system.

For this guy, hanging is mild. He should have his innards cut out while he's alive.
For the people he killed, that will never settle the score.

If a hanging is done correctly, then the neck will snap when he drops and death will be instantaneous. Thats more humane than anything that we use in america today. But yeah if you get sentanced to death, I could really give a damn about how cruel it is. You know he didn't really care when he gassed the Kurds. Those are the people who deserved better.

You know, Saddam's death is the only death I'll watch with a smile on my face. God, I hope that bastard suffers. Did you see, by the way, how he started yelling when the judge tried to tell him the verdict? That was golden..

You know, how much I'd love to see him die, I agree with your statement.

Yes, but only if you do it yourself.

Read the wiki article I posted above. Yes, you can still be hung in the US. It happened as late as 1996.
