IMHO, the death penalty is never acceptable. The death of Saddam can never vindicate any crime he has ever committed, by any means.

Vindication? Who said anything about that?

Plain and simple, it will prevent him from ever repeating any of his heinous crimes.

A maximum security prison is just as effective.
Which is more cruel? Death? Or life in a solitary 6x9 cell?

Quite frankly, we're not interested in assauging your fears or guilty conscience.

honestly, I prefer the death penalty fvck being humane, Im sick of paying taxes for all the life sentences. Capitol punishment would save alot of money.

I don't think there is anything more dehumanizing, or cruel than having your life taken from you.

Either way is taking a person's life from them. The only difference is whether it's fast or slow.

Death is not punishment unless you believe in an afterlife of suffering.
Your logic is lacking. If death is not punishment, are you saying that you would have no qualms with dying today? Way to troll though...

Of course I don't want to die.. But it doesn't take a genius to realize that once you are dead, the punishment is over. Non existence is not suffering, or else people would not commit suicide.

Punishment does not require extended suffering.

For Saddam, I think it's definetly appropriate. In fact, I think they should torture him a bit in front of an Iraqi audience before they hang him.

Heh... California executed a guy this year for arranging the murder of two witnesses who were going to testify against him while he was in prison serving a life sentence for another murder.

They don't stop being dangerous until they are dead.

Seriously. Ever hear of prison gangs? They've got contacts.

Ex kinda: In Israel, there are many jihadist leaders in prisons. However, their lawyers are allowed to talk to them and pass messages to their organizations.

The issue at hand then shifts to corruption in the correctional system, not the ability of the inmates.

But it doesn't - it costs more in this country to put someone in death, than it does to keep them in jail for life.

I have no problem with it. Public executions FTW!!!

You betcha. I support bringing back public executions in the civic center of town, just like in the olden days...Sell tickets and eliminate many budget deficits! Make attendance for everyone over the age of 10 works for me too..."Wanna be in a gang? look what you have coming"....

Cruel and outdated perhaps, but it sets a good precedent for when Bush is finally brought to justice.

Great way to make en example out of them. Instead of teaching our children a moral foundation, and telling them not to do things because they are not moral/right - we're telling them not to do things because of the possibility of punishment. Is there any social justice in that?

I do not support the death penalty but if you are gonna do it, then hanging is generally quick, painless and efficient, much better than the electric chair, gas chamber or lethal injections. Ditto for the guillotine.

A sensible person would think that a mix of the two might be a good combination...Like the old "you can lead a horse to water" adage, you can tell and teach kids all you want, but not all really pay attention to the lessons...

all forms of the death penalty are cruel and outdated. it does nothing but to serve the vengeful side of a human being. it makes one no better than the executed. statistically, it doesn't even deter crime -- there have been studies on this issue, alone. I fail to see why we as a nation and people continue to use this archaic method of punishment.
