Look at it this way, if somehow sh!t got slapped on to your cheek (the one on your face, not your butt ), would you want to wipe it away with TP or make sure your rinse, lather and repeat endlessly with your own hands? That's how you clean your backside with water. You first rinse it to get the goop out and then you scrub it and then you go and scrub the hand that scrubbed it. It's clean, it's safe and it's environment-friendly

Yeah germs are everywhere, but handligh feces is worse than not handlight feces. It's making the problems worse rather than better. If for some reason i was forced to deal with sh!t, i'd definitely make the hardest effort not to use my bare hands.

But yeah water is better than TP, but not water+bare hands.

I think the sanitary rating goes like this:

bidet > power washer > TP > fire extenguisher > bare hands

the less direct contact, the better

Yes this is true. Like in Turkey, much of the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and how Italy used to be.

But these days, most have it, probably like 90-95% of decent places.

Don't worry, if you're going there, you don't need to go to a superstore to get it, every corner market store or 'chemist' (like walgreens or cvs) carry it.

I guess you learn something every day. Didn't really think about it I guess. I haven't traveled much outside the US - only on a Bahamas cruise and to the Philipppines - but both had paper.

To those who think the hand is cleaner/better than paper - are you serious? You are talking about putting your hand in feces for crying out loud. There's nothing clean or hygenic about that. I'm a guy who moistens his paper and I don't stop until it's free of brown. I also wash my hands with soap afterward just in case some nasty got through. That said, don't tell me about a bare hand and water being more clean. Yeah, I know that's TMI but in this thread I guess it fits.

Anyway, I can understand not using paper and washing your hands if it's not available because of the situation but to preach prefering it... No.

This thread is getting totally retarded. First of all, in India, I think 90% of urban dwellers use toilet paper, hence the toilet paper in most public places (90% at least in delhi).

Second, I seriously doubt any *normal* people from developing nations (again, this is not restricted to India, many parts of the middle east, Turkey, and as I said before, even 'Western' Italy used to (some probably still do)) STILL use their hands once they come to the United States.

I have not heard of one person that does that here, and I know thousands.

Third, to be totally honest, out of 10 people that leave a public restroom, 9 Anglos will NOT wash their hands, and you guys know that. I have observed minorities though, such as Indians, Asians, Hispanics, and Blacks, and they do so much more than Anglos. Disgusting. They hold their wanker and then shake your hands 5 minutes later.

This thread is really over exaggerating the reality of what goes on in modern parts of India.

Also, what I got from the other Indians is that they still use their hands. Upon checking out their profile, I also noticed that they're, indeed, in the states. Even worse, they still do believe that it's THE clean method. How can I believe your data when real Indians are telling me something different than yours?

I don't wash my hands after taking a piss. If I use a public restroom the only thing I touch is my d!ck.

it also works that way in some other Asian countries (Malaysia, Vietnam, etc...)

I don't wash my hands after taking a piss. If I use a public restroom the only thing I touch is my d!ck.

That could actually start a new debate / thread.

If you aren't carrying an STD, your penis is actually cleaner than the environment you are touching with your hands. So perhaps men should wash their hands BEFORE pissing so as to keep the penis clean. It's an idea that hit me a few years ago when I was working in hospital labs. At that time, I DID make sure to wash with soap BEFORE pissing and after.
