as a left handed person, I refuse to wipe my ass with my hand. In fact, I use my right hand, with TP, and I wash my hands after wards. Anything else is just sick and wrong.

Ohhh....Hooray for smearing crap all over my genital area!

And if you use 2-ply TP, then the chances of getting crap on your hands is must smaller. Still must wash, to mak sure. Don't want to get E-Coli or something....

1. after you wash your anus with your hand and water, it's still dripping wet. How do you dry it without toilet paper? I'm assuming you guys don't just pull up your pants at this point and walk out of the toilet with wet undies.

2. you say you wash with a cup of water... how do you "pour" the water onto "the target surface"? cuz when you crouch, gravity obviously works against you and your water supply. I'm trying to visualize how the water will flow. If you try to level the surface by pointing your ass up high in the air, won't the semi-dissolved brown gunk drip down all over your balls, thighs, and clothes?

If you scrub hard enough, water will leave your ass cleaner than toilet paper. However, considering that most ppl take a shower once a day and only take a dump at most twice a day (anyone do it more times per day....???), I think the added convenience of toilet paper is desirable. Your ass is rarely exposed to the public, but your hand is.

answer? :p

On the contrary, the Harappa-Mohenjodaro cultures also known as the Indus Valley Civilization had indoor plumbing in 2300 B.C.

Indus Valley Civilization did not have true indoor plumbing. They had open aqueducts that ran parallel to some streets on a grid. Most of the homes in the inner area had a drinking well (not indoor plumbing). They also had private bathrooms - there were claypipes that took the $hit to the street sewer (this portion was covered). Same thing with their open to air sanitary system. They were the first ones to use "the grid" as a basis of an urban city center - and none of the theories that they had a pump system for freshwater been proven or any evidence found ...

whew ... City Planning history ... 7 yrs of architecture and planning school will do that to you ...

Thanks! That's interesting to hear.

There's this new invention that people refer to as 'hand towels' or 'wash cloths'. They're very useful! ;)

Washcloths are disgusting. Who washes their ass with a washcloth and uses the same washcloth to wipe their body? That stuff sticks to cloth better than it does to your hand.

Is it so hard to make it the last step in your shower? Then you can use a clean cloth for your next shower.

I guess you're right, but my ass is the first thing I want to wash when I get in the shower and the jewels are second. I like to soap those parts several times during the shower to make sure they are clean. I usually shampoo last. Maybe I have it backwards?

I shampoo first and wash the backside last. So, we're opposites in that regard. ;)

while you may find the thought of wiping your ass with your hand nasty, don't knock it if your only argument is that "its gross!"

edit: and, with some soap and water, your hands are clean after the act (not to mention that you save paper and prevent clogging your sewer lines)....

The best is to use TP until there is nothing on it and then use a wet wipe or bathroom wipe. Then maybe you can use soap and water. Having a bidet or a spray helps the cause. Those Japanese toilets with the built-in spray sound like a plan.

Your points are quite valid and you are right in stating that washing at the toilet is not very effective. Using a handheld spray helps a little, but I think only a true bidet or Japanese bidet/toilet elevates washing above TP in practice.

This thread just reminded me of a Mythbuster's episode. They were trying to bust the myth that there is fecal coliform on your toothbrush. Needless to say, they failed. So to all those that are disgusted by this thread, you might want to throw out your toothbrushes... there is fecal coliform growing in it!

I find it funny that everyone forgets to mention the obvious inconveniences of using water - you have a wet ass when your done, do you just put ur pants back on and have water soak into them? lol

Close your toilet lid before flushing and you'll avoid the fecal spray.

Uh.... how do you know this??? According to scientists it did.

It was named after the city of Harappa which it was centered around. Harappa and the city of Mohenjo-Daro were the greatest achievements of the Indus valley civilization. These cities are well known for their impressive, organized and regular layout. They have well laid our plumbing and drainage system, including indoor toilets. Over one hundred other towns and villages also existed in this region. The Harappan people were literate and used the Dravidian language. Only part of this language has been deciphered today, leaving numerous questions about this civilization unanswered.

But I guess we should just believe Dandruff... random idiot over actual knowledge. Seems like thats what most of this thread is about.

Perhaps, but I would wager that a majority of the world would find this habit disgusting, especially the majority of the non-poverty stricken world.

Indian people (and people from all countries) need to realize that a criticism of one aspect of a society, culture, or people is not an attack on the entire society or culture.

The bottom line is that smearing your own feces off onto your hand is disgusting. Your excuse is similar to saying 'being obese is OK, you just don't understand the culture'. No, that doesn't work.

Sh1tty ass wiped with a paper or sh1tty ass rinsed with water?
When you feel the need to wash your hand after wiping ur ass with tp why the hell don't u feel the need to wash ur ass in the first place. Isn't it obvious that rinsing with water is more hygienic and cleaner?

i have to admit at first this all sounds very GROSS....but then, in this our GREAT very own land of the US i see people taking a p*ss and d*mp every day and leaving the bathroom without washing their hands.

(After touching the door-handle of course which is waiting to be touched by ME next when i leave the bathroom.)

So dont insult other cultures but instead look at the pigs HERE !

Nobody's insulting a culture, jesus lol. We're trying to convince a few delusional people that it's less sanitary to touch feces than to touch paper.

How do you dry? Do you carry a cloth with you? In India are those hand dryers at ass level??

As far as I can imagine, the chunk will be all over your finger tips even if asswipers don't do it intentionally.

This is more like 90% of the world vs. 10% of others. I, too, am from a totally different country than U.S yet normal enough to know difference bettween disgusting and clean. Even worse, those people are walking around in my or your country with their nasty left hand. Even worse, there're cooks or people who touches things that I touch. That's sick.

Yeah, that sucks....BUT, it's still better than those left hand ass wipers touching door handle with their freaking wet hand. What do you think is worse? A door-knob that's been touched by dry hand of TP users OR a door-knob that's been touched by WET hand of left handed ass wipers??????????

also asswashers tell me: how effectively can you wash with just 1 lt of Bisleri (u know what i am talking about)? some containers even have less ...

also, in most bathrooms, the sink is outside .. so u pull up ur pants with those hands ... close the tap ... open the kundi (the latch on the door) ... and you do this wityh the other hand ..right?

also, since every indian male or female clips their nails, that implies all indian females dont have long nails ... google indian brides ... what i see .. hmmm .. long nails ... with buttloads of jewelery ... so when a indian bride with all her finery .. she has $shit on her fingers ...

also, indian temples / mosques are the most filthiest ... that should tell you how clean indians are ...
