If you don't want to overclock then don't, but if you truely believe there is no performance gain by overclocking, your either a complete fool, or just plain have no clue as to what you are talking about. If you can run a $150 chip at the same speed and peformance level of a $400 chip, why wouldn't you?

I had an AthlonXP 2500+ that went straight up to 3200+ right out of the box.. Temps and stability were perfect and the performance change was very noticable. Games were smoother and the PC as a whole felt much snappier.. Just because you cannot pull it off, does not meant that others that know what they are doing can't.. If you are just here to troll, Do as the others have posted..Go away.

 
People should have to take IQ test before they could post on the forums. That way morons like him could be prevented from posting. Slot's IQ falls around the 70-80 area (Mentally Deficient).

For most people, overclocking is unnecessary because they don't use apps that benefit much from it. With servers or any instance where complete data integrity and absolutely perfect stability is extremely important (not so much with the average home user), it's an even worse idea. However, it's a great thing in applications where a performance boost is desirable, but you can tolerate slight instability.

If you don't want to OC or don't have the need to, that's perfectly fine--just don't concern yourself with others' business when it's not appropriate to.

That is what research is for...We do have an cpu/overclocking forum for just such a reason. Not to mention vast resources on the web about the subject. You are really only trying to spread FUD. Come back when your knowledge is better on the subject..

You won't find people saying that, and the 2500 to 3200 was a special case.

No one here would recommend OCing a mission-critical system. But in general, they aren't recommending OCing a $2000 system either; they're heloing people build a system for $1000-1500 that performs at about the same level as one that costs $2000.

BTW, if you had a bad OC, you either have a bad PSU, didn't properly determine your fastest ram and CPU speeds, don't have a working AGP/PCI lock, or, most likely, all of the above.

Overclocking is a solitary science..It is done at home on your personal machine at your own risk.. Don't know where you get the idea that everyone thinks they're cool because they do it...Some do, Many don't. It's on the lines of "free speed" if it works.. Kinda like taking the governor off your lawnmower powered go-cart and having it go faster..It's about the thrill..

 
LOL. Overclocking is so bad for your components that many manufacturers include software overclocking out-of-the-box.:roll:

There has been many "special cases" over the years...Celeron 366 @550, Celeron 566 @850, Celeron 600 @900, various XP mobile's @ ungodly speeds, P4's also.. Nothing is ever guaranteed, But many had real good chances..

I'm not worried about whether I'M cool. My chip has never gotten over 40 degrees C, even on the hottest summer days. If it's cool, I'm cool with it being cool. :laugh:

OK, so maybe YOU had an unsuccessful unstable OC, but many here have done it suuccessfully and proved it yields better performance.

All I mean is it's not *too* common to have a chip that can be run as a higher model, with a simple change, and not have to worry about all sorts of other settings. I don't even really consider that 'OCing' though technically I suppose it is; it isn't very involved though. Change one setting, test, and you're done.

For me, I don't really have the patience to fiddle; if I can bump up the bus speed one standard level and run the chip, with everything else in spec, I like that (I had a 566 that ran 850 perfectly); I honestly don't have the patience to spend time finding maximum levels for every setting, probably because I'm not a gamer, so I really don't need the extra speed. But neither do I just pick a desired OC speed, and then whine when it won't work😉
