Hell if you think they are loud, you should hear a pre evolution engine
i.e. Pan or Knuckle head.

The fact that the sound a Harley makes annoys so many of the Pimple Farming Dweebs here validates it. To bad they have become so popular with Yuppie Scum these days.

As for the cafe style Rice Rockets, at least when they get in a wreck the rider is already in a position to be catapulted 50 yards and land on his noggin

Lol!

Red Dawn--I think you've done a fine job personifying the issue here. Alot of noise with no point. Well done.

As I understand it, some Harley cams are designed so that cyclinders fire in rapid succession, followed by a relatively long pause. Of course this makes for a less efficient engine, but it sounds like BLAT BLAT BLAT BLAT rather than b-b-b-b-b-b-b

Harleys... they're at least 10 times louder than the rice-farkers in my area. In fact, my friggin exhaust is louder than every single ricer I've come across other than V6s or V8s with exhausts bigger than their engines. Harleys are infuriating, they're as annoyingly loud as an uncorked boosted rotary.

Then again, I'm pretty sure my exhaust is pretty annoying because it sounds like the friggin WRC is making runs past your house. Off throttle you can hear the gurgle of flames popping in the back.

Riding around on a Harley that you modified to be louder is the middle age equivalent of putting loud exhaust on a Honda Civic and driving around with the subs cranked up. Pretending otherwise is just silly.

Personally I put loud vehicles, fast looking cars, neon lights and case windows in computers and men who cultivate the bad ass look into the same catagory. That catagory would be, "form before function", otherwise known as "looks over substance". Now as an engineer I'm much more interested in what something can do than what I looks or sounds like it could do. But I suppose the world needs marketing people too :)

I've got a set of 3" DG HardKromes on my bike with baffles, and they're nice. When I open it up on the highway, they're pretty loud. But when I roll into the driveway at 3AM I can put her in 3rd and keep it quiet enough that I don't have the neighbors calling the cops on me.

I heard a pair of these debaffled a couple weeks ago. Holy sh1t those were loud.

Don't get me wrong, most of the riders love the noise that their bike makes, but don't discount the safety aspect. Bikes aren't nearly as visible to other drivers as cars and trucks are, and the loudness of the bike is one of the few ways a rider can let you know they are there.
I usually don't hear em until they come zooming right down the middle of two lanes in traffic scaring the sh1t out of me and I go "Woah, holy fsck I'm glad I didn't hit em."

It pisses me off when I see them do that. Every time I just wonder how far they'd fly if I opened my door :D

Harley's are nice, but sometimes people that drive them rev up the engine just to make more noise. I don't mind the noise when they're driving, but it's pretty annoying at a stoplight.

The Harley/Buell dealer near my parents' house has one of these: VRSC out front.

I'm not a big fan of Hogs - I'd rather see a sport bike with a talented rider, but that bike is simply pure SEX.

Oh, and the Washtenaw County Sherriff's deputy was doing traffic enforcement on one of these yesterday. Yummy.

Yeah but those sport bikes, like most of the riders of sports bikes, seem so effeminate!

You'd hate Wakefield Mass then, It seems to me that they have more Harleys per capita than any other place I've lived (Bay Area and Merced Ca)

Maybe their small stature is more fitted to those Crotch Rockets. You even notice that you don't see many little skinny runts on cruisers but that vast majority of Sport Bike Riders are rather delicate and short?

Different strokes for different folks. I used to love sport bikes, still do, but my next purchase will be some sort of Harley. I don't see how any one can compare the two. They are made for completely different riders. IMHO both are a blast to drive.

Can't we all just get along. I love riding no matter what I'm on. Thats what it's all about to me. I agree they're loud and can be obnoxious but so are a lot of other things. My 69 camaro would set off car alarms just by idling past them. My Trans Am will do it when starting it. My FZ 750 would if I revved it up enough. I just made sure I didn't go around the neighboorhood at 2 am doing it.

Everyone bashing harleys here are just haters who don't want to understand that not everyone likes the same things they do and are immeadiately uncool because of it. I am not condoning the late night romps with loud ass pipes mind you. THats got nothing to do with the bike and everything to do with the rider. I have been woken up more than a few times by the guys on my block with their harleys.

I live on the 48th floor of a high-rise, and I'm really sick of waking up at 3AM on a weekday because some mid-life crises A-hole Fvcktard "LOOK-AT-ME-I'M-SO-COOL-CUZ-MY-BIKE-IS-SO-LOUD-AND-NO-I-REALLY-DO-HAVE-A-LARGE-D*CK-REALLY!" revs his engine going by.

If you're on the Interstate making a lot of noise, fine. But you A-holes who feel more macho because you can make a lot of noise at 3AM in a residential neighborhood should have your manhood questioned.

Yeah Red, those beer guts make it hard to tuck in :D

BoberFett- it is all a matter of what you have a bike for. I like to go fast, far, and still do the twisties. That makes my bike best for me. Cruiser people have their own reasons I am sure. Pure sport riders like twisties best as a rule. It all depends on what you are looking for.
