YES! HARLEYS DO HAVE TO BE LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS (and the same goes for any other motorcycle)! Why because of @ssholes driving around in their damn cages with their heads lodged up their back-side focusing on everything BUT driving. i.e. talking on the cell phone, shaving, doing their makup, b!tching at the kids in the back seat, eating a jelly donut while reading the morining paper, etc, etc.

Short version of a long story: LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES. If I can't be seen then I'll be heard at least. Until then find something better to do then gripe about Harleys with loud pipes. It's a Harley...get over it and try not to kill one of us the next time one of you cager's are behind the wheel.

I'm pretty young and i'm thinking about getting a sport bike. I think Harley's are cool, they're just better suited for older people and Larry's. I think sport bikes look better and are way faster.

Whats the youngest age you've seen someone that owns a Harley?

17. Then I knew a guy 23 who worked for us and owned both a harley and a buell which is harleys sport bike.

Actually it's the Old Boys who can afford them and are big enough to hold them up. Besides you ever see a fat guy on a Sports Bike or a Skinny Asian guy on a Harley (Probably but they are few are far apart)

I think most of the people in this thread need to get over themselves, it doesnt matter what the sound is coming from, its loud and annoying. It is STRONGLY enforced in streamwood, IL (where my mom lives). They pull over cars and bikes with loud exhaust, and cars with loud systems. Even during the day.

Good for them. Fun is fun, but at a certain point it is all obnoxious

Any exhaust louder than (I think this is the correct figure) 95dbA is illegal, modified or not.

So yes, most of those loud bikes you hear are illegal. So are the rice burners. So is, btw, any car stereo you can hear from 50 feet away.
