I never listen to Dixie Chick's music, I'm not into country.

I truely believe that everyone has a right to voice their opinion, however, when one does without substance then be prepared to be critized,
and don't come up a lame ass statement like "Oh, I was just joking". If you truely believe what you've said, stand by it and debate it,
if she took her stance and provideed her argument, I would of have more respect for her, but with her pathetic explaination, I find her to be a blithering idiot.

Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks absolutely has a right to say that she is ashamed of GW, and consumers also have a right not to listen
her music or purchase her products.

PBR and pork rinds? Yah whatever.
Inbred Rednecks listen to David Alan Cole, not the DC's

Who the hell is David Alan Cole?

Country music fans are all inbred rednecks of course

Well isn't that nice. White southerners are the only group not protected by political correctness and hate speech. How lovely.
Hey Californians aren't either! Of course we probably deserve it:) BTW, Rednecks are found elsewhere besides the South. In fact I didn't see where he mentioned Southern "Whites" at all!

You are so passive aggressive it is unreal.

Is it possible she really was joking and that she has nothing to argue?

You should watch who you call an idiot considering how many misspellings there are in your post.

I do not agree with what she said.
I think she had every right to say it.
I also have the right to protest her or anybody else I do not agree with.
I still like there music.
If she really feels that way say it tonight on SNL.
Play on....... chicks.
SNL also has the right to cancel them as well.

I'm pretty sure it's David Allan Coe, not Cole.

Yeah, I know of Coe, even have one of his CDs. I guess I don't know his cousin Mr. Cole. :) Does that make me a redneck or a biker?

I don't know and I don't care, her statement has no bearing on my opinions.

Misspelling few words because one is in a rush to do something else, and making a statement and failing to stand by it because of public backlash isn't exactly same.

SNL just ended. I never heard them before, their not bad. I saw their second song and people were cheering like mad, no boos. I guess that goes to show that only the rednecks are pissed, and I think Cops was on at the same time, so they must have been distracted :)

Personally, I think what Natalie said was pretty stupid, especially if she had any idea of the demographics of their fan base... (& she should have been well aware of the demographics).

They have the right to say pretty well anything they want, and I support that right, however, I have the right to vote with my $ in support of my opinions.

I read somewhere that their album sales are actually up since this little tempest exploded, and that they've moved up the chart. Sounds like there may be more Americans opposed to the war than some will admit. They simply aren't as vocal as the war's supporters.
Contrary to what you were led to believe by Michael Moore, public war opinion is not based on country music ambience. Even so, I think between some stations banning playing their music and the cancellation of their Nestea commercial, there is considerable evidence that they have felt some repercussions for their statement.

I liked your reference to war supporters as "vocal" though... Especially while the anti-war crowd was blocking streets and rallying human shields... the "vocal" war supporters were working the real jobs and supporting the military...

Just kidding around, of course.. but I'm really digging how we all isolate and prey upon each others' catch words.

Wasn't it a rerun tonight? They had Valentine's Day skits.

People get worked up about reruns?

In addition, the Dixie Chicks' Home album saw a more than 40 percent decline in sales after Maines's remark.
Up to 50% now.
The marketing department at their record label has just got to love them.

Album sales don't stay the same forever. Especially albums that have been out more than 30 weeks. A much better way to measure would be to compare how their sales are compared to other albums on the chart, and as the story linked earlier said, their rank is up.

Sorry, don't get your reference to Michael Moore. What does he have to do with anything?

It is widely claimed that the Dixie Chicks are suffering from the backlash for her comments. According to the article on E! Online, however, this is another distortion (article quoted in my earlier post). While there has been anti-Dixie Chicks noise from war supporters and the talk show blowhards, the reality is that Dixie Chick's sales rank rose after their remarks. I took this to show that the noisemakers are out of sync with everyday Americans, that any effect of a "boycott" was more than offset by people who supported her comments. This isn't what war supporters want to believe, of course, so they continue to repeat misinformation as if it were gospel.

Re. "vocal", that may be the wrong word. Both sides have pretty vocal contingents. I think "visible" would have been better in my context. While there are pockets of vocal opposition to the war, the visible support for the war in the U.S. is far more widespread. We see it in most every news broadcast and publication, in advertisements, in people's yards, in stores, wherever we go. We even fly an American flag at my house, in spite of our oppostion to the war itself, because we want to show support for our troops and our country. I believe that most people who oppose the war are pretty quiet about it simply because there are so many hotheads and loudmouths ready to attack anyone who questions the war.

Finally, I want to be clear that I was only talking about the U.S. Obviously, opposition to the war is both more visible and more vocal if we consider the world as a whole.
