Black, White whatever. The movie will make billions due to clever marketing.

Do you think that little white girls are going to want a black princess doll or black princess sheets? Do you think many white parents or grandparents will buy a black princess doll or black princess sheets for their daughter or granddaughter?

I commend Disney for trying, though.

MotionMan

I sense somebody is a bit racist in their lives, AND talking out of their ass.
My little girl (white) has several "dark skinned" dolls in her collection (Barbie, Cabbage patch, ones my wife made etc...) She has specifically asked for them since she has been about 3.

Your ignorance and meat-headedness shines again Motionman

There is the world we want and the world we actually live in. The fact is that there is still a lot of racism in this world. To deny that is being ignorant.

I just cannot see a black princess doll selling as well as a white princess doll. I wish and hope I am wrong, but I fear I am not.

MotionMan

You are wrong. It will sell just as well. Kids don't see color

the original source of the name is a nymph in Greek myth, but yeah there was (still is, I guess) a popular email client called Eudora.

More from the article: "Anika Noni Rose, the black actress who voices the character of Princess Tiana, has insisted that people should look beyond the colour of the character.

?Not only is she the first black princess, she?s the first American princess. We?ve never had an American princess,? said Rose."

You Disney fans... so they've actually never even had an American princess?

If the princess and prince were to have a baby, I'd be that baby.

So would my niece and goddaughter. And she's cute as heck!

 for future Mulatto-ismness

 for all mixed race kids, like mine, and most of my nieces and nephews. When everyone's checking 2-3 different boxes under 'race', race will matter less and less.

Or maybe they will finally do away with the ridiculous check boxes altogether.

No problem with that, IMHO! In most situations, it's just not relevant.

The prince in that link looks Brazilian. Unbelievable that a black princess and latino prince isn't PC enough. Maybe they should adopt a blind Laotian kid.

In any event, I really do hope the world you believe we live in comes true one day. I really do.

Because despite the cries from particular groups for equality and being color blind all they'll ever really care about is the color of other peoples skins.

I have to say pretty much ANYONE I know, family or friends would have no problem at all with this. Take into account the, oh... I dunno, MILLIONS of black people that will buy the doll and toys, I'm sure it will sell just fine.

Why can't the prince be an illegal immigrant?..... Since the powers that be love them anyway? His name could be Hector or Juan:evil:

Are you saying that whites will buy just as much of this stuff as they would if the princess was white (which is what you seemed to be saying up to this point) or are you saying that black people will buy enough of this stuff to make up for the whites that won't (which is what this last post implies)?

Heh...the reaction to this is reminding me of when my wife and I walked into a McD's in Florida on our way to Disney when we were dating and some little 7 or 8 year old little girl looked at us and said, "Oh hell no!"

What did your wife make of this?

She thought it was hilarious. We still laugh about it.

Was the kid black? :Q

Yep

Snow White - German
Cinderella - French
Belle - French
Ariel - International Waters

The only one is Pocahontas but that?s prior to 1776.

Hmmm what about Ann Hathaway in "Princess Diaries"? :p

dubbya tee eff? my girls have and used to play with lots of dolls of different colors. they didnt think in color in respect to their friends and toys at that age, that came later in school where the differences were forced on them to notice. so far there is no real separation of races at their school.

Everyone knows "handicapped" is a prejudicial word nowadays...it's "challenged."

Same for "hermaphrodite." Now known as "multigender."

if cartoonists work in a scene with 3 snaps in a Z formation, I will be all over this movie like black on burnt rice
