What I don't get is why MPAA or whatever their organization is doesn't have qualified people handling this. I still say the black hats have them beat. My guess is they sourced their needs to another company and there wasn't complete accountability for failure to deliver.

I'll say again - it's the static media that is the problem. Until the MPAA realizes that they are lost. But they are in a losing position IMHO. They want to control the content AND the delivery - not gonna work in today's processing world.

Sounds like the guys doing their method have read too many textbooks on what is and isn't crackable.

Well what they're trying to do is impossible to protect; they're using cryptographic technology designed to keep B from seeing what A<->C are communicating, and instead making the user both B and C. You can't simultaneously give someone the ability to decrypt something and not decrypt it at the same time, it just doesn't work in the long run.

i haven't dugg up a single one of these stories. the only thing this indicates is that the masses want to be in power, and digg's democratic potential actually is more powerful than the digg staff has been left to think (i personally question the democratic power at times; now the staff learned the hard way, which to me is GREAT because they didn't seem to want to change it).

but having recently been in my own 'legal battle' due to freedom of speech on the internet (actually, the legal letters are still in progress... hey, maybe i'll have a real comeback on AT by posting about it here), digg is obligated to remove any content that infringes on copyrights and violates laws. this is very much the case.

at the end of the day, digg needs to protect its own ass (and so does AnandTech), and the reputable sites will be forced to take it down. i'd imagine that all these new blog sites promoting the decryption key will soon be issued their own cease and desist notices (oh, the power of the clueless)... freedom of speech is one thing, but if you know how to hack a sensitive system and actually publicize it, you could be in a lot of legal trouble.

taking these risks is a troublesome game, especially since Digg had to remove the posts for a good reason... and people posted this info not caring that they are the next targets.

Never going to happen. It is like giving a person a key to your house. Your house has been owned the best you can do to stop people from steal stuff is bolt it down but with time any bolt can be removed.
