Yes, even NMA-Fallout.com, home of rabid 2D-only crazies, seems to have come around.

Fallout 1-2 are better games from a story and role-playing perspective but FO3 did a good job of capturing their atmosphere and was a lot of fun to play.

The people who claim Fallout 1 and 2 were amazing and Fallout 3 didn't live up to it are victims of nostalgia. They usually fail to point out that Fallout 1 and 2 had more bugs than a cheap motel. Nonetheless, they were great games, and Fallout 3 was a great game. Bring on #4.

I never played the first two, but FO3 is probably the best game I've played in the last few years, despite its numerous problems.

I played Fallout 1 and 2 but I'm very new to them, I bought them from GoG.com only a month or so ago, I actually played Fallout 3 before them. And I like them all to be honest, with Fallout 3 being the best in my opinion. But I do prefer Fallout 1 over Fallout 2, simply because Fallout 2 is more slow-paced, at least for my tastes, things generally tended to kick in sooner in Fallout 1 (enemy encounters, items, story developing elements and dialog, important characters, most of the things just happened sooner, that or I was just playing it much faster than Fallout 2 for some reason).

Eh. While it's only meh in my book, the simple reality is that the things that really bothered me about it would've bothered me no matter what it was called.

I loved Fallout 1 and 2 and I liked Fallout 3. That said, it felt more like a spin-off than a continuation. Not a bad game, but a lot of the humor and detail is lost. Bethesda games are about exploration, not role-playing, but Fallout 3 is better than most Bethesda games. It even manages to have some humor and detail in the style of the old games, just not enough.

For me the humor part of Fallout 3 is pretty much all covered by Jericho.

Megaton Settler: "Hey Jericho."
Jericho: "Get the fuck out of my face."

*laughs and resumes on exploration*

Job done Bethesda.

While I despise Oblivion, Fallout 3 actually held my attention for a while. I'm still working my way through the game, but its actually fun, unlike Oblivion. I do wish the game had more memorable characters, but it seems that the glory days of story telling and character development are behind us until the next electronic gaming meltdown.

Story/plot wise Fallout 3 is shallow IMHO. Sorry but Besthada is not on the same level as Bioware ( or even Blizzard ) or the defunct Black Isles and Trokia when it comes to weaving a interesting and engaging epic storyline that just grabs you and makes you want to play over again once you are done.

No. Absolutely not. Fallout 3 was utter shit compared to the first two (after patches.... fucking endless boxing announcer bitch bug FTL)

No humor, tiny game world, worthlessly dry dialogue, shallow story, mediocre gameplay.... Fallout 3 = Oblivion with guns. Fallout 3 <<<<<<<< Fallout 2

Agreed. Man, there were so many weird things about the first two and yet people nitpick the third one so bad. For example, in the first game I found that I could pickpocket the bookseller to steal her money and gun and then trade them back to her for books. Repeat this long enough and your character is easily maxed out in many skills all the while the damn lady never notices anything familiar about the gun she keeps trading for. And yet people complain about being able to get water from your house in Megaton and giving it to the bum outside the city for good karma. But you can only get so much water from your robo-butler at a time and the karma impact is pretty low. You'd have to be pretty damn determined to sit there and bring your karma up from that. I was pleasently surprised to see that after stealing an unique item, it would be confiscated if I brandished it in front of the previous owners (Unfortunately I was given the item but for some reason the other denizens considered me having stolen it. Ok, so I did "rig" a little election to get it in the first place but it was for the good of them all).

Anyway, it keeps the atmosphere and mood of the previous games while it engulfs you in the universe in a way they never did. Before, trecking through the wasteland was a day counter and an overhead map ala Indiana Jones. It's something completely different to step out from the vault in the beginning and seeing the entire landscape of the wasteland.

Most of the humor is found inside of random buildings. I think it's in the Vault Tec building where one of the company emails tells employees to stop hitting the vending machine with fire extinguishers and shoving feces in the coin slot.

That whole Antagonizer vs Mechanist thing was pretty funny when I first saw it.

Fallout 3 was simply mediocre.

Not bad, but not exceptional.

i think the reason why fallout 1-2 fans don't like fallout3 is because they changed it too much. It's not that it's a bad game(if you're into this sort of stuff) but more that it shouldn't have been called fallout3. It's like making a JRPG in the Forgotten Realms setting and calling it Baldur's Gate 3, how many fans do you think would like it(besides those that also like JRPGs of course)?

I enjoyed all the Fallout games, here is how I would rank them on a 10-pt scale:

Fallout 1 - 8.0
Fallout 2 - 10
Fallout 3 - 8.5

FO3 was more fun (to me) than FO1, but definitely not as good as FO2. I end up playing FO2 every 2-3 years when I get "the itch". It is still amazing.

I thought Fallout 3 compared quite well to Fallout 1 & 2. It's _different_, but the only real quibble I had was the total removal of all sexual material. The gameplay itself is quite fun, and the setting is undeniably Fallout-esque.

I am on an enforced FO3 hiatus... it will end when all of the DLC is released. Ditto for GTA4.

I think i'm a sucker for the post-apocalyptic wasteland setting because i loved them all.

Including Fallout 1 thru 3 even Fallout Tactics.

I also loved playing Wasteland on my C-64. <RadScorpion explodes like a blood sausage>

As a female character I offered a male NPC the possibility of a threesome to get him to do something for me. Even if I didn't have to follow up on it, I think that counts a little bit. :p

I miss impregnating both mother/daughter per Fallout 2.

I think I missed that one... Oh wait, now I remember. Hahah, good times, good times. I just can't remember how you get out of there without the husband going to work on you.
