diarrhea

No Lifer
I had the worst stomach pain in my life last night. 2nd time I remember it happening... pretty much just as bad as the worst migraines I used to get. No matter what I did - walk around, curl up on the floor, sit on the toilet (bloated and nothing would come out) - the pain was excrutiating. I was in a cold sweat and thought the end was near. Same feeling as when I ruptured my spleen and fainted while driving home, and woke in the middle of the road to the warmth of my own piss.

I was moments from waking my wife up to drive me to the hospital, but I knew whatever they could do would still be an hour away at best. It turns out after 2 doses of Pepto along with 20 minutes post-Advil, it became somewhat bearable. Did you know that if you lay on your chest with your ass upward, gas usually comes out easier? That didn't work at all. I've had "watery stools" for the last couple days. I don't know why they call it stools because there is no stool... it's just bubbly water that comes out the other hole, as if I were peeing. Strange phenomenon. And it just continues throughout the day. I was reading that watery stools could lead to death. WTF. How can diarrhea like this lead to death... they say dehydration. Really, that serious? Or maybe this is a stomach virus? I don't know - sharp pain for 30 minutes - would figure it'd be more than that.

Probably Shigella, Campylobacter or E. Coli.

Any blood in the stool?

Do you have any underlying health conditions that would weaken your immune system?

Have you been exposed to any recreational or untreated water?

Yes, it is that serious.

If this has been going on for more then 2 days, I suggest you see a doctor.

Have you eaten any raw shell fish lately? Such as raw oysters?

Stuff like Shigella is highly contagious. You could get it from touching something that an infected person touched, and then eating without washing your hands.

For most healthy adults, E. Coli, Shigella, Cryptosporidium,,, is just a day or so of diarrhea. But sometimes you need an antibiotic to get over it.

seriously talk to a doctor

Color of stool? Usually black stool is food poisoning

there's been hardly any stool but it's normal color. I remember starting to feel like crap after eating 4 slices of leftover Papa Johns - but I've done that many times. If not black stool, maybe that had nothing to do with it then.

1230p appointment made. Need to get some antibiotics for this cough anyway.

maybe you are just seriously constipated?

EDIT: when nothing moves, stuff backs up. This in turn causes the intestines to spasm as they try to move stuff (peristalsis) and this results in all sorts of pain and discomfort.

Diarrhea kills tons of people but usually it's children in the developing world. With access to clean water and better medical care it's less risky.

There you go. Papa Johns is not food. Old papa johns is a science experiment waiting to happen.

this happened to me last year after eating some bad indian food. i was in excruciating pain for about 5 hours, then I somehow managed to fall asleep. woke up in the morning, and everything was fine.

I agree with those saying doctor. It could be a stomach bug or it could be an impaction where nothing but water can get around it. Let us know how the doc goes.

Symptoms of amoebic dysentery include:

abdominal pain
fever and chills
nausea and vomiting
watery diarrhea, which can contain blood, mucus or pus
painful passing of stools
fatigue
intermittent constipation

The amoeba can tunnel through the intestinal wall and spread into the bloodstream and infect other organs; ulcers can develop, these ulcers may bleed, causing blood in stools.

In some cases symptoms may persist for several weeks, but usually only last a few days. The amoebas may continue living within the host (the human) even after symptoms have gone, increasing the likelihood of a recurrence when the person's defenses are down. The amoebas are less likely to survive if the patient receives treatment.

How long have you had a cough?

Do you have a lot of face-to-face contact with the public?

Do you smoke?

It's been lingering over a week and got worse again the last few days. My kids who go to pre-school have been ok so I don't think I picked up anything nasty from the school.

I work from home and don't smoke. All I really drink is filtered water from the fridge. I will look into changing that filter too (the green light is still on after 9 mo.).

If you had a lot of face-to-face contact with the public, I was going to suggest you get a TB skin test. It only takes a couple of minutes, its painless, and you were going to be at the doctors office anyway.

Are you getting enough sunlight? Lack of vitamin D can affect your immune system.
