How bout the fact that with each diamond they are giving AK47 and machetes to 13-15 y/o boys so they can kill and rape at their hearts content?

hey every kid needs a hobby!

the thing is, women refuse to believe that. and why should they? you see all of the celebs (with the exception of U2's bono, brad pitt, and angelina jolie) focusing on style -- which includes a collection of diamonds. very few individuals want to believe that such atrocities are a reality.

so you'd have a problem with getting a man-made diamond? even though its more perfect than a natural one?

if so, why?

man made diamonds aren't fake. we just happened to find a way to commercially speed up a process that takes nature many millions of years.

compressed carbon = compressed carbon! :p

Actually I think they are.

Nike shoes are just shoes, you buy them because its trendy and feels good on your feet.

Diamonds have been portrayed as sort of the ONLY thing you would buy your wife if you REALLY loved her.

And I'm sorry but nothing says I love you like the blood of innocents.

Please, Nike has done the same type of advertising campaign as DeBeers has. It just isn't as far along. Thats the entire point of advertising. DeBeers is the ultimate success story when it comes to that.

Asian GF?

asian girl who only wants 1ct? dream on....

I'm aiming for 2 ct when the time comes and a certain somebody better be reading this too. Platinum it too!

I don't think advertising is the problem here.... it's more like the torture and misery of innocent people. But everything we do contributes to that suffering in one way or another... it's just a matter of degrees of seperation.

-Max

BTW I was wearing Nike's when I proposed to my fiancee with a diamond.

Platinum is overrated. It dulls within a very short period of time and needs to be polished near constantly to keep its shine. If you want that look just go with white gold.

So then I dont get it, we are saying we would have said YES to your suggestion, what makes us so bad?

Too many commercials have too many women thinking the only way he REALLY loves you is if the ring is big and the wedding is expensive.

So much about marriage is all about money nowadays its not funny.

If and when I ever get married TWO things have to be understood. SHE will want a synth. diamond and she will know WHY she wants it over a "real" one. and second, the wedding will be like, 10 people, tops. Parents, best friends, thats it.

I don't need to spend $40,000 to make a lifelong commitment, and all that crap, is purely commercial. The cakes, the reception, the catering, its all popular because of BUSINESS.

Used to be if there was food it was because FAMILY got together and made it. If there was an elaborate bit of decoration, it was because FAMILY got together and did it.

Now everyones too lazy, doesn't care, and is expected to just hire someone else to do it.

Loses all its meaning.

A diamond should MEAN something. It should be a symbol unsullied by the struggle and death of innocent men women and children.

And I don't really know that I'd want to spend the rest of my life with someone who didn't get that.

True, but not as bad as platinum does. I've had a couple of jewelers tell me that platinum degrades in a matter of a few months.

Are you kidding? Are you honestly saying the Air Jordan campaign didn't portaay owners as "being like Mike"?

You are in lala-land if you think that Nike has never tried to portray their goods as making you run faster, jump higher, and play better.
