It's good to know you are not one to indulge in discretionary spending. I have to wonder why many here like to rail against women for wanting a diamond. I mean, I sort of felt the same way at one point but when you realize all the things we spend money on (Watches, Computers, Cars > econo class, expensive dinners, etc.), and then realize that a diamond does hold its value pretty well, it doesn't seem to be as bad a purchase as it might seem at first.

I know it's popular to bash DeBeers and although they deserve much of it, you should realize they don't hold the monopoly the once held. Also, diamonds comes from many parts of the world, most which are not involved in conflict.

Regarding a diamonds rarity, you are correct that they are not rare. However, that is a simplified way of looking at things. It's sort of like saying a Ferrari is not rare b/c it's a car. Good quality diamonds are rare just as good quality rubies are rare. I can show you a diamond for $50/ct and one for $50k/ct. The same can be said about rubies.

My second wife is my perfect match, and I've never bought her a diamond, though I do have plans to buy her a nice ruby ring one of this days. She doesn't expect it; it's something I've come up with on my own and she doesn't know a thing about it (and doesn't follow my ATOT threads to the best of my knowledge 😉) so it's truly a gift from me to her. Not an expectation as so many women have.

the last GF i had i was quite serious with, she was still someone beleiveing in teh fary tail wedding and all that BS, she wanted a diamond, I flat out told her that she wouldent be getting one from me, it didnt end our relationship, later she actually at one point tod me that it didnt matter if it was comming from me, it didnt work out anyway as our differing ideas on religion did that one in

A lot of leeway is given on these forums based on the fact that the membership is mostly young and male. However, the practice of calling other members "whores" or "sluts" is not acceptable nor are slurs based on race or sexual orientation.

I'd say calling someone a skank falls in that first section.
