Ok so a friend of mine wants some info on WHY exactly man-made diamonds are not so bad.

My personal standpoint is that nobody has ever died for a man-made diamond. Nobody has ever been put to work against their will as a slave for a man-made diamond.

There has never been a cartel of rich greedy soul-less profiteers controlling man-made diamonds.

But I would like links to any info you guys may have about the history of diamonds and some of the not so stellar things associated with them (african conflict diamonds come to mind).

I know I should just sift through google for the answer and I am sort of, but I KNOW some of you guys have probably got a good idea of where to point this person.

Thanks in advance.

I think that they should only be used for industrial purposes. CZ should be fine for personal use if you just want something shiny.

Interesting that there isn't as big of an anti-oil campaign as an anti-diamond campaign.

Could you actually see a richb!tch celeb giving up diamonds?

It would be easier to steal their toot.

i don't think that what's going on in africa is going to change the opinions of millions of women worldwide. most of them don't know what kind of work goes into getting a diamond. many who do refuse to believe that people work under such miserable conditions. it's not only the diamond industry, after all, that has laborers working under less than ideal conditions.

I thought man-made diamonds were only big enough to coat drill bits and saw blades and junk. how big of a diamond does your friend want?

My wife has always wanted a diamond tennis bracelet and other trinkets. I have always told her that it's a certain kind of "wife" that gets adorned with those things....and she ain't it!!

Now I'm glad there is a moral reason to "just say no".

Thanks Baltazar!!

How bout the fact that with each diamond they are giving AK47 and machetes to 13-15 y/o boys so they can kill and rape at their hearts content?

Timely thread. I've been ring shopping lately and it blows my mind how much damn diamonds cost. Luckily my GF has small hands, size 4 ring finger, so the largest stone she wants is a 1ct. Anything bigger just looks weird on her hand

Girl's best friend... pshaw. Only because a century of successful marketing has made it that way.

Couldn't have been said any better. How many immigrants' wives had big diamonds on their fingers when they reached Ellis Island? Few to none I'd reason.
