Yes, Deus Ex supports 16:10. Did you set the files to "Read Only"?

Got it. I thought that I had switched off-read only for the necessary files individually, but second time around I just switched it off for the whole Deus Ex folder and below. Works correctly now.

Only thing I need to work out now is the image quality -- I got it looking real nice at 16:9, but at 16:10 (1920x1200) I keep coming up with a display that looks "resampled", even though it's the monitor's native resolution. Will keep working on it.

Thanks again...

Would be neat to have something like this for the original Half-Life trilogy. I realize that would never allow us to forget the whole Black Mesa Source fiasco, but it's something.

So I've been trying for about four hours to get this friggin game to work in full screen, tryed doing the hex editing myself and finally wound up trying to use your utility but I still can't seem to figure it out!

I get the same error message Dvar did when I put my user.ini path into the directory but since I used a disk rather than steam I don't have a DX2 folder in Program Files.

I installed the game directly to my desktop so I tried putting that in as the directory and I don't get the error but when I try to start the game it just crashes before even loading. And it runs just fine (but not in wide screen) when I don't run your utility.

Is it not compatable with windows 7 or am I just a complete idiot?

I got it to work for windows 7 64; but I had the steam version. My original mistake (mentioned in this thread) is that I used the wrong set of files; this supports both deus x and deus x invisible wars and you have to pick the correct one for your game.

Might be another issue that was my mistake; but it does not appears to be a win 7 issue.

You need to browse to the root directory of DE: IW. Your user.ini should be located in "My Documents\Deus Ex - Invisible War\user.ini".

I have tried this multiple times, the 'read only' box is not checked so that's not the problem. As I said in a previous post I tried doing the hex editing myself before trying this program so I possibly screwed something up by doing that. Or since I installed it directly to my desktop rather than a sub folder ic C:/ it may be having trouble finding it, i dunno.
Ima try reinstalling it in C:/ and restart from there. If that fixes it I'll let ya'll know

Deus Ex is such a great game. Must have played it about half a dozen times. Last time about a year ago with widescreen and the texture pack which does a good enough job that it is visually presentable if nothing else.

Might have to try this out.

I just got Deus Ex the other day/ I'm thinking its pretty hard but ti may be the way I am playing it. I want to kill/knock out every enemy to take their stuff, but I guess I shouldn't be doing that.

You can certainly kill everybody. You just have to realize that you pay a VERY heavy accuracy penalty for shooting while moving until you get all the way to Master training, at which point you're a crack shot.

Sorry to bump this old thread. But I've got a problem. This is for Deus Ex 1, retail version. I have an Nvidia surround setup, at 5760x1200 on Windows 7 64bit.

When I try to run the utility at this directory (driveletter: DeusEx\System), it gives me:
deus2.jpg

And when I try to run it at this directory (driveletter: DeusEx), it tells me that my aspect ratio needs to be 16:9 or 16:10 and gives me this:
deus3.jpg

All of the files in the System folder do not have the Read Only box checked, they are all unchecked.

Now, I noticed that in the main DeusEx folder, all the folders inside of it are set to Read Only. The problem is, when I try to uncheck any of them (including the general Deus Ex folder), hit apply, then okay, and go into the properties again - the folder goes back into being Read Only.

I don't know if that will have an impact on the way the utility works. But if the folder(s) is not a problem, then I don't know what is. All I'm trying to do is to get my UI/HUD elements to the center monitor. Any insight?

Sorry, I was on vacation. The reason you are getting this error is because as of now the utility only supports 16:9 or 16:10 aspect ratios. Your aspect ratio is 48:10. I will probably update the utility to include an adjustable FOV and to support all aspect ratios.

For Deus Ex 1, you will need to edit Deus Ex.ini which comes with the utility and is located in the root directory of Deux Ex Widescreen Utility 2.0.0 depending on which renderer you use.

If you are using the DirectX 10 renderer for example, here is what you would do:

Find:
Code:
GameRenderDevice=GlideDrv.GlideRenderDevice

Change to:

Code:
GameRenderDevice=D3D10Drv.D3D10RenderDevice
I will be working on finding a better solution but this will work for now.

Pretty much just made an account here to say thanks.

I just ordered the new Deus Ex, and wanted to beat the first two games again before I started it. Was annoyed when I saw that the max res for IW was 1280 something(I used the new awesome texture pack for the first game, with Katie's launcher).

It took me a few tries to get this to work, but now the game runs at my screen res of 1680x1050! So thanks a lot. Not sure why it was hanging the first 5 or so tries, the launcher would work fine, then when I tried to load a game, it would freeze and hang on a black screen.

I've noticed a lot of people don't seem to like IW, not sure why myself, I had fun with it, granted it's not as great at the first game, but I thought it was still pretty good. "Shrug"
