Detroit cuts off water for non-payment, protest ensues

There's certainly a percentage of people who don't pay their water or other bills because they've used that money for alcohol, drugs or other sundries that they don't need but it's a small percentage.
What is that percentage? I'm curious to know.

You are just ready for only a part of the truth. You already understand that folk are best off psychologically earning their way, but you may not be up to the notion that this leads to the need for government to provide some kind of employment for all but the severely disabled who can't really contribute anything. You are probably definitely not ready to see that we hate ourselves and as a consequence have an unconscious death wish. But you will probably agree that poor people hate the rich because of envy, which has its origin in just such self hate. Crazy generally means that some idea differs with what we believe as a result of trying to comfort out egos, which are a buffer designed to protect us from openly and constantly being crippled by the painful experience of remembering our past and the traumatic things that made us believe we are worthless things. We are not worthless of course. It is only something we were made to feel.

I don't want to cause you pain, but it was by the deepest grace of suffering that I managed to understand some of this. I wish there were some other way to say what is true and not make it hurt somehow. On the other hand, like knowing the value of money, you value what you earn. The price of wisdom is the death of the ego and it's money well spent.

I hope it will not hurt you to much to tell you how wrong your assessment of the way I think and act is wrong. Let me give you a little insight I believe worthless feelings about ones self are not limited to any group rich or poor D or R conservative or liberal it is more complicated that your conservative rants in many of your posts. I used the word crazy because you get so close to human understanding in my opinion, but often times you ruin your point with an attack. Its a shame really because sometimes we do or say things or feel a way about certain things never really knowing where they came from. You often know where they come from. Use your understanding carefully and use it neutral get people thinking.

For all that are sympathetic to those not paying their water bills, here is your opportunity. You can send your checks to:

The Moon Ministry
Central downtown hub
Freespace Detroit

or
you can make an online donation at:

You know you want to stop this violation of human rights!

Smelly people are a race?
Apparently - using the proggie definition of racism, which is literally anything not in lockstep with the official proggie line.

Fifty-two race cards and a couple of jokers - in case you need to play the race card and don't have one.

Yeah! How dare we expect people to pay a meager amount of money for treating their water to ensure it is safe to drink and maintaining the lines that facilitate it to their house! The outrage!

Yea fuck the disparate for wanting water. Presumably they're all out buying soda and booze! Let them run their toilets and showers on that! Why do they even want working toilets anyway? They should be shitting in the streets as per their status.

I do not think that word means what you think it means . . .

Too damn lazy to seek help or fill out paperwork?

Fern

Pretty much, yea.

Do you know about the women, infants and children (WIC) program? If you qualify for medicaid or food stamps you should be able to qualify for WIC.

The number of people getting WIC has been decreasing mainly because the parents are too lazy to go to the WIC clinic.

Food stamps can be done over the phone. You have to go to the WIC clinic.

Lazy people will not even get food for their kids if it requires them to do something.

But... Laziness is a basic human right!

This happens in every town and city in all 50 states. It costs money to lay pipe and to purify water, and to dig wells. Take a shove and see how far down you have to dig to reach water!

On a side note, the Mississippi River is reaching flood stage when I drove over the Alton, IL suspension bridge this morning.

Take a 5 gallon jug to the gas station and fill it up when you buy gas. I guess you are too poor to own a car also. Maybe put some barrels out and collect rain water for free.

Collecting rainwater is illegal in a lot of places.

Yup, that stuff from nature that falls on your property without you asking for it.

Leave it to government to create a problem that only that benevolent hand of government can solve. They're a lot like organized crime that way. "Nice business, it'd be a shame if anything happened to it. We can make sure nothing happens."

Been wanting to use this one. 🙂

Check your facts- it's not currently illegal anywhere in the US, however some states require you to get a permit:

What are the chances of getting some help from our Canadian friends?

I mean, Obama wants 4 billion for the illegal children from Central and South America.

Anyone think that we could get our neighbors to the North to send a few thousand of their children to Detroit illegally?

Water Dept is only $172 million in debt. Numbers could work.

Anyone, eh?

This is a common practice for people who don't think they need to pay their bills. You need to have priorities. Booze and Cigarettes and Cable TV and Internet comes after Water.

In some cities if you don't pay your water bill they condemn the property and kick you out.

not wanting to pay is very common in this segment of the population...yes water is a necessity and a human right but its not free as they seem to conveniently like to forget. They have had so mus free stuff that they cannot give up the malt likka and cigarettes to pay for this.
