Speed limit on that part of 5 is 75mph I think. Actually doing over 100 isn't very uncommon on 5. Especially near the Bakersfield part. Its just a big long straight two lane road with nothing in front and nothing behind you. Plus there's a big ass piece of land between the 2 different directions. Pretty safe for speeding standard.

I had use of a powerful vehicle lately and wanted to see how fast it would get on a perfectly straight section of road that was safe (it truly is; its a one way very wide lane with about 10-20m of trees on either side. honestly impossible to hurt anybody else) and got up to 123 mph, so I won't scold you for going 101. But twice in a row? Sheesh! Anyway hopefully this time you really DID learn your lesson and you'll not get screwed with such a massive fine.

BTW, next time buy a radar detector? :)

So hire a team of scumbag lawyers to help get you off. Sounds like that's what everyone is telling you to do: hire a lawyer.

BTW, I live in california and have driven up the 5 and 99 many times. I've seen many drivers like you. I sincerely hope you lose your license for a long time. :Q

LOL! I can vouch for CptO's appraisal of Atlanta's drivers....they suck. As long as there's not a jam, they're doing at least 80. There have been several instances where someone was pulled for 130+ in a 55...."trying out" a new car or bike.

Again, good luck...I think the lawyer idea has been pretty thoroughly stated, so hope that approach works out. Also, I was serious about looking into track days (provided you're close-ish to one). Few things are more fun than 150 on the back straight here at Road Atlanta:D

Actually, I think i found a way off for you. Reckless driving in cali is 100mph. You were doing 101. Find out the model of the radar detector the cop used. Then find the error margin, which I'm sure is more than 1%. Once this is done, you can argue yourself out of a reckless driving into a mere speeding ticket.

To keep your insurance rates low, I suggest doing WHATEVER you can to lower your points - improving your driver rating.

<< He was a heartless officer doing his job, he really didnt care for what the consequences I was about to face. >>

I skipped replies 35-70 so maybe I missed something, but I read about half the people calling you a dumbass and deserving and the other half telling the others to back off. To the ones that said back off, go find something else to do. He's a big boy and can take care of himself. That said, I'm in the first half. The officer wasn't heartless at it. It was you who didn't care what the consequences were when you did it. He did his job and I'd not want it any other way. 100 is way too fast. You know it. I've went over 100 before too, but I knoew what would happen if I got caught. You've earned your lumps and want a way to weasel out of them. You need a lawyer or you might just be screwed.

Kendogg, my unbiased opinion is that you should get a lawyer and ask his advice, and if possible, show up to court with you. You're in above your head right now and since your immediate future is at serious risk, you're going to need the best legal consul you can get, even if that is the public defender.

I'll withhold my opinion, but it follows suit with most of the opinions already put forth.

No offense, but as I said before there is no way anyone here can have any substantive advice for you - even as a California-licensed attorney (which I am), I have little if any ability to help without working in the jurisdiction in question. I think, unfortunately, that all you will get here is lectures and some EXTREMELY vague advice.

If your an attorney and you don't have an answer then your one bad attorney ;)

Get a lawyer. Since there don't seem to be many lawyers on this forum, all anyone can do here is share their experiences... And that doesn't seem to be happening. Have you posted on any law forums? BTW, I wouldn't skimp on attorney fees because it might make the difference between driving and taking the bus.

Mandatory advice ;-)
[for everyone] If you've been speeding, drive at the posted speed limit for several miles before hitting traffic or exiting a highway. It seems to reduce the adrenalin rush, and makes for safer street driving.

Man, what's with all these people who don't know jack about the situation who are flaming kendogg.

The Bakersfield area is a FREAKING desert. It is a vast, flat stretch of brown grass. What the hell is he endangering? Squirrels? Butterflies? Tumble weed? On coming traffic isn't even on same piece of pavement as his road, and its separated by a concrete divider. Half of the people on the 5 enroute to SF/LA are doing 100+.

Oh yeah, that's right, if the law says something is wrong, then it must be so!

No wonder the Nazis had such an easy time pushing the Germans into going along with persecuting the Jews. With this kind of mindset, they simply wrote the holocaust into national law and it happened. :disgust:

Kendogg,

whatever you do, fight it. Get a lawyer, do anything except show up and plead no contest/guilty. That's basically bending over and handing them a spiked dildo. They will hit you with the maximum penalty, I have never heard/seen an exception to this. And in your case, means hundreds of dollars of fines and 4 points on your driving record. I believe 4 points means a one year suspension of your license. I don't know about the rest of the people in this thread, but to people who live in socal, not being able to drive is very close to not being able to live.

Best of luck to your situation, if you get off clean from this one, drive slower. If nothing else, it will keep you out of trouble, and with everything on your record, that definitely can't hurt!

Its a little late now but if it was going to be your second offense I think I would of seen just how fast that car could go.

No, I am just one that does not want to commit malpractice. I have never participated in traffic court, particularly not in the county in which the violation took place. Fortunately my job does not involve that level of offender, and I get to focus my attention on the bigger fish.

Giving him a ticket = genocide

How long did it take for you to come up with that brilliant analogy? Kendogg, I think you found your lawyer. Good luck, the both of you! LOL

That's not exactly what I said, but good thing you know how to read. Aren't you so much more "brilliant" yourself?

At any rate, it is the same mindset, different levels. Everyone is susceptible to this obedience phenomenon to some extent. Good thing you recognize it.

outersquare thanks for understanding and putting yourself in my shoes.
I spoke to a couple friends that have contact with a lawyer. The lawyers were unfamiliar with how things worked in Bakersfield county. Basically if I want to get off the hook completely is hope and wish that the cop wont appear to the court hearing. At this time I am not sure as to whether this guy was a highway patrol officer or a local cop. From what I remember the patrol car was all white and had no lights on top of the car, I also recall seeing red lights in the car but no blue. I heard that highway patrol officers are usually more busy, being more likely they wont appear.

To all you flamers,
Why is it that you insist on flaming kendogg?? This guy is asking for your help and advice and it seems like all some of you do is flame on him. I say you stick to your day jobs and not waste your time bickering about how 'stupid' he is. You all must have small small penis', because making this guy feel bad must make you feel like you are better or smarter than he is. Does it really make you feel good? Do you get off from making him feel bad?? You all need some sort of psychological help, because trying to put someone on a lower pedestal than you are to make your life a little more acceptable is very disturbing. So my advice to you flamers is: get off the couch, take your fat mid western asses to the psychologist (or weight watchers, which ever you prefer), and use your time loosing weight instead of trying to make yourself feel good by someone who is honestly in trouble. Thank you.

P.S. I know some guy who thinks he is so smart and I am offending people will write some smart ass remark to this, but I don't mind. =)

as far as the laws in Texas go...
anything over 20mph OVER the speed limit cannot be dismissed with defensive driving or probation, you MUST pay the full fine and take the responsibilities... the cops are required by law to attend the trials, and a 2nd major offense you lose your license....

I don't know if the law where you are is the same, but that's how it is here...

now..
<flame>
why are you going over 100mph? that's plain stupid...
If you were caught doing it once and had to pay a $500+ fine why did you even THINK about doing it again?
I hope you do lose your license for your own safety and MORE IMPORTANTLY for the safety of others....

I'm not bickering-I know that his actions were/are stupid.

oh, and to mention the obvious-you seemingly registered just to make this post...perhaps a day job is in order.

<< You all must have small small penis', because making this guy feel bad must make you feel like you are better or smarter than he is. >>

Wow, that truly came from nowhere. But no, I dont feel better or smarter than him-I'm just concerned that he'll kill someone.

ok, you got me. I'm at work, cant look at pictures of naked women, and have to settle for getting off on calling someone I dont even know a dumbass. sure, that makes a lotta sense.

<< get off the couch, take your fat mid western asses to the psychologist (or weight watchers, which ever you prefer), and use your time loosing weight instead of trying to make yourself feel good by someone who is honestly in trouble. >>

-I'm in a comfy chair, not on a couch
-I'm from the east coast
-"I'm not fat, I'm festively plump"
-doctors charge too much
-yes, he is in trouble, as he should be for repeating his offense and lack of remorse.

<< P.S. I know some guy who thinks he is so smart and I am offending people will write some smart ass remark to this, but I don't mind. =) >>

You arent offending anyone. actually, you gave me a nice laugh, stereotyping (incorrectly, I may add) all 95 some-odd posts.

"I am so smart, I am so smart, S-M-R-T!"

"have a nice day"
