As for mine - I do use it as a dumping ground in the sense that all ffx and torrent downloads to the desktop, but i clean it off promptly
mine

It's Black for Windows Blinds. I like dark themes, sometimes with slight transparency. I had Broken Vista before, which is probably my second favorite right now.

I tend to drop things on my desktop for temp purposes... that usually turns into long term until I can't stand it anymore and I clean it up.

The the cycle starts again.

Anyone else use an invisible folder (blank icon, blank filename) on desktop? I have a hierarchal "One Folder To Rule Them All".

What's the point of that as opposed to just using My Documents?

Maybe he doens't want to use your documents? Maybe he wants to use his? :)

I keep my desktop(s) as neat as possible but they tend to get cluttered as the week goes on. I like to use Friday afternoon or Monday morning to take an hour and clean up, sort stuff, file things where they belong and prepare for the next week. I like letting things pile up because they're easy to grab when they're right there on the deskop, but they need to get sorted in pretty short order otherwise things get rapidly messy.

This is why I don't bother with any kind of fancy themes or even wallpaper. I use the Windows Classic theme, plain blue desktop. Two row taskbar - I don't know how I ever got by with one row.

haha. That's exactly how my machine is. If they take out the windows classic theme, I won't buy a new OS.

I keep the desktop on my home PC pretty barren. My work PC usually has all the documents I'm currently working on on the desktop for easy access.

At work its mostly a mess but at home its only somewhat a mess before periodic cleanings. I voted for dumping ground.

At home, it's empty. I only have two side bar items for a recycle bin and calendar/time (but those may be going as well.. I never use them).

On my work PC, it's a temporary dumping ground. I have a few program icons and anything I'm currently working on.

Dumping ground. My files don't even all fit on my desktop. Any of my desktops. My home PC, my work laptop, and my work virtual desktop are all solid with icons.

Work computer - Looks like a bomb went off. Need to do some cleaning.
Work laptop - Ehh...so so.
Main Rig - 2 icons. Recycle and folder shortcut to installed games.

Of course my desk at work doesn't look much better. Desktop Pic

i have a handful of icons for work apps used most, and 4 more in my quick tool bar. i like it barren, i set up a download folder for firefox, and i have all my work files separated from everything else as well. one of the other programmers that works for me has his whole desktop covered in folders and icons. he cant find anything to save his life, but he still maintains it that way.

i got a nice industrial table with drawers to hold all my work toys, giving me much more room to spread out. now i have a 7'X7" L shaped desk with a table behind it as well as my "test" table next to it, making it the largest desk area in the company. it is kind of nice to be able to lay out 4 systems on my desk and tables, and still be able to set up a few PLCs and OITs at the same time.

I've 7 shortcuts + MyComp, MyDocs and Recycle. I've heard that if you place large files on the desktop, it counts against your RAM. Any truth in that?
