Total dumping ground. What other function does it serve? All the apps I need are in quick launch or start menu.

A couple of icons for normal programs + a few files that I didn't feel like sorting as they'll be deleted soon enough.

I used to be the typical geek who had to have a clean, symmetrical desktop.
Then I stopped giving a fuck when I realized my computers were nothing more than a tool, not a lifestyle.

Actual data that I plan to keep indefinably gets filed in proper location.

I do the same thing here, excep, I do it when I feel like it. Which is usually when every 2 or 3 weeks.

I try to keep it clean and barren, but it ends up looking like my real desktop- cluttered nightmare.

This is why I don't bother with any kind of fancy themes or even wallpaper. I use the Windows Classic theme, plain blue desktop. Two row taskbar - I don't know how I ever got by with one row.

I have 50 icons on my desktop, no wallpaper, and 7 sidebar gadgets down the right side.

I use my desktop quite a bit. I never use a fully-maximized window for anything except games.

Yeah. I have a really messy desktop. ALways have. I don't like it but I don't bother to clean it up much.

Mine is a disciplined workspace. Completely empty most of the time of all shortcuts and files; ready to become a temporary dumping ground for files and links that are project related. When the project is done or it's time to move on, everything on the desktop is moved over into a archive folder, and I'm ready for the next project.

Golden rule: the desktop is only to be used for one project at a time.

I try to keep my desktop clean so I can find tempory items I dump their easily. Now my *real* desk on the other hand...that's a disaster zone.

I clean mine every now and then. I prefer a clean slate, but chaos creeps in over time.

clean.

I will put temp folders there just so I remember to clean them up. The truth is that I rarely see my desktop. I leave Firefox open and have the essential program in the quick launch bar.
