are there areas where you are more likely to be able to invade someone? I tried for the first time today, section 4-1 I think, in various areas, and it always failed to find someone.

edit: just tried another area. got "invading" messages a few times but it always failed to join the host. could be my internet settings or something? i have no idea. I have been invaded successfully

edit again: ok I think I have it fixed. I don't know why so many problems arise when you have media servers enabled on the ps3. what a pain

I only peeked at the fourth video, but he had a lot of stuff that I don't believe you can start with. Does he pick these up as he goes on through the game in the one hour? Or has he already invested into his character before the whole one-hour run.

EDIT: Seems like he picks them up as he goes.

I haven't watched the videos, but I'd assume he picked up the "best" weapons to upgrade for his build.

he handles everything way easier than my lvl 60 with however many hours I've put in...20, 30, idk

I'm sure he has a really high level character, and has put tons of hours into the game. You can't do a proper speed run without pouring hours into the game of finding the most efficient path/items/strats/etc.

well yeah, but it looks like hes using a new character for the run, which is impressive.

and I wasn't sure how many hours I put in so far. I thought it was 20 or 30. nope. 40+ lol. maneater kicked my ass a bunch of times last night

I don't see how people even have fun using such a boring/cheap strategy, but it really does work well in most of the game.

That said, I went toe to toe with Tower Knight and beat it without getting hit. It's not really hard, even when you aren't hiding in a corner.

Yeah, Red Eyed Knights can be difficult in the beginning. It is probably best to avoid them. But if you can take them down, they give you a good bit of souls for the level you are at.

You think that's bad, I also beat the final boss of world 1 (Old King Allant) without getting hit once.

Similar strategy with the bow. First have the thief's ring. If you come out of the elevator fog and you don't move, he doesn't attack you. You can then pelt him with arrows until he dies.

I've heard people using the same strategy killing the red dragon. I used the same strategy killing the blue dragon.

I will admit, it does take the challenge away and "cheapens" the encounter.

Started this game a week ago or so. Totally into it. It's brutal, unforgiving, yet I don't hate it for some reason. Combat is great. Such a good dark fantasy game.

What type of build are you going for and how in depth are you planning on playing the game? If you are going to go after the platinum it is a very different approach then just trying to play through the game once.

For caster weapons the best is the Talisman of Beasts, but that is hard to get. Until you can get that, the plain wooden catalyst is the best overall. The Silver Catalyst gives you more ~20% more MP, but reduces the power of your spells. Wooden Catalyst has damage close to the Insanity Catalyst but doesn't reduce your MP by 50% like the Insanity Catalyst. If you are rolling faith, you are stuck with Talisman of God until you can get the Talisman of Beasts.

Holy hell, I did not notice that about the wooden catalyst. Been busting my ass with the silver one, lol.

Meh the camera system never sat well with me, got tired of it and aiming on boss fights.

When I'd want to just run, instead of roll or side step if I was or wasn't locked on. Would be so much smoother on a mouse/keyboard. So after getting fed up with it, it's just collecting dust. Had a good premise tho.

control system is great

Yes, it is. Not my fault (or the game's) that you are too inept to use such a simple system.

Next time don't blame the game. Blame yourself.
What would I know? I've only played must faster paced games, where I dunno aim is everything.

Keep telling yourself that.

Edit:
The game is good, the controls aren't. I'm sorry your love for the game doesn't allow you to take any criticism about it. No amount of posts of saying it's my ineptitude is going to change that, I play a wide range of games from RTS, FPS to sports online on a daily basis so I know where my skill level and hand eye coordination is at.

Control system is okay. It's not the greatest, but you get accustomed to it. After sorting out that difficulty with using the weaker catalyst, finally cruising along. Finished 1-1, 1-2, and 4-1 so far.

Bumping the old thread because I finally got around to playing this game. I only did level 1-1 but I had a ton of fun! I went in being very cautious because everyone told me it is "the hardest game ever" etc. and managed to not die during the first level. It didn't seem too difficult, but I cheesed most of it with a wand that I had; I just shot guys from way out of range and almost never got hit. How soon can I get my first bow?

Look at the wiki page and find where to buy / find the bow. I would recommend making the sticky bow+3 as it is the best bow in the game and easy to make. Sadly, running a dex build (archery) takes a lot of fun out of the game because it is a lot of cheap shoot from afar stuff.

I haven't played this thing in months. only got about 3 levels left but I've lost the interest and desire to beat it. it was a chore beating certain sections

I bought this based on everybody's recommendation, and honestly, I have absolutely zero idea what the fuck is going on in this game. I don't know where I'm going and I don't know what I'm doing, and NOTHING is explained in game, anywhere. I played for 3 hours and feel like I made no progress at all. Of course since this damn game is Nintendo Hard, I died atleast eleventy billion times.

I think I'm done with Demon's Souls for now.

If you are confused just read the wiki. Honestly, the wiki makes the game extremely easy.
