Demon's Souls

There is also news of extending the life of the Demon's Souls online servers. I guess the game is really popular. News link here: http://www.joystiq.com/2010/07/21/atlus-to-continue-demons-souls-servers-until-2011

Now is an excellent time to jump in if you are on the fence. I picked up my copy used from Gamestop for $35. Up to SL 61 right now.

Edit: Also, right now they are having a Pure White tendency event in honor of extending the servers. Pretty cool. I've already taken advantage of that by taking out Executioner Miralda.

I've only been invaded once, and I beat the guy (barely). We were both melee focused and it took a while as both of us kept managing to heal without getting hit. I have yet to invade anybody though... I don't think I've died since I got that stone though now that I think about it.

Dying holds no consequences? Losing your souls you've been saving up is a pretty big deal IMO regardless of what playthrough you're on.

Souls are easy to get, and you're not really penalized much for dying. Sure you have to get back to where you were, and you have a chance to get your souls back plus however many you collected along the way. It is a minor set back unless you're worried about world tendency, which isn't advisable on the first playthrough.

Yeah the longer I play the game the less I care if I die. I've died a few times with 50,000+ souls and it stings for a second but then I get over it because I know it's not really that big of a deal. I'm at level 65 and can already handle all the weapons and stuff I want so I'm not really in a huge hurry to continue leveling only to get invaded by even better players.

One thing I really like about this game is how you can literally just change your character and play style 25 hours into it just because you feel like it. I was primarily a mage and just recently got the monks wrap. Now I'm kind of on the fence about remaining a mage because if I'm going to be a powerful mage I really need to wear the head wrap, but the fact that it is so HUGE and ugly and completely blocks my view really turns me off. It isn't worth the 50% damage increase or whatever to have my ability to see what's in front of me completely ruined. I've found that my play style is really more of a thief/assassin character so I can easily equip those items and armor and continue on my way.

picked this up a few days ago from amazon for $20

I'm probably around 3 hours in, still working on 1-1. I feel like I have very little idea what i'm doing. didn't seem like the game explained very much about how the game works. Every time I start reading one of the wiki pages I learn something new.

getting my ass kicked every so often and having to start over is not very fun. and considering in the time i've played i've only been able to buy a piece of armor, not sure what I might be missing

I can't be the only one who got this game recently since the price dropped. Anyone else just starting? I finally just beat 1-1. for how hard the game was, the boss was surprisingly easy. would have been easy and quick to retry if I died, unlike many other parts of the game, but there was no need.

First boss is cake. Come back after you beat flamelurker.

Best game this gen IMO

Everyone says they have problems with flamelurker, but I never found him difficult.

Maneater is much more difficult for me. Also, the final boss.

I bought the game for 29 bucks monnnths ago from a gamestop online deal. Still haven't played it. I think I might finally put Reach down for a bit and get into it.

I beat Flamelurker pretty easily with melee first time through and maneater was actually harder for me but on new game + and ++ he was ridiculously hard for me so I'm not sure if I just got lucky the first time.

I think Maneater and flamelurker are the 2 hardest fights. I've heard flamelurker isn't that bad if you are ranged.

I just got it too ... and I managed to beat the Phalanx boss last night. Then went elsewhere, and died almost immediately 😛

Still not sure exactly what I'm doing, but I am definitely getting more skilled at dodging/blocking.

Picked it up as well from that Amazon deal. I just need to get around to playing it!

Yeah, i grabbed it for $24 @ EB Games (used). Though it was only $29 new, so wasn't a big deal. Played last night, and was impatient, and ended up getting destroyed a few times in a row before deciding I wasn't in the right frame of mind to play 🙂

Once you learn the dodging and blocking mechanics, the game gets easier. You might try a ranged character if you haven't already.

agreed. I start 1-2 and got to the boss on my first play, though I was following a guide along the way. it is a short area though, and I died at the boss lol. but the one on one fights are getting much easier

Is there any downside to killing Ostrava(I think that is his name, the guy you escort through 1-1 and 1-2) in the Nexus to get the key?

I've beaten 1-1, 1-2, 2-1 and 3-1 atm, want to clear out the rest of 1-1 and 1-2 if possible.

I'm getting fed up with this fucking game lol. I'm all for hard games, but when you gotta start lengthy levels all over again, its just a pain in the ass. When I think about playing I don't say "man, I hope I can beat this level," I think "man, I don't wanna play, I'm just gonna get pissed off when I die"

Its the 2nd friggin level, I really have to go grind to be able to beat it without going crazy?

Don't give up, it gets easier when you get some decent gear.

I never had to grind.

Just be careful. Take the levels slowly. Be patient. Spend your souls on levels in the beginning.

When you die, you get a chance to get all your souls back. And since this is the second time, you should be able to avoid the mistake that got you killed the first time.

If you are having trouble with 1-2, try a different level. I personally did 4-1 first. You get a but ton of souls there, plus its a pretty short level with relatively easy-to-dodge enemies. A more popular choice is 2-1. I'd avoid 3-1 for now.

Been trying 1-2 I'm to the point where I'm just running through straight to the boss. Maybe I'll try grinding a bit for more levels, idk. The boss is one shotting me when I inevitably get lost in the camera angle

You really shouldn't be getting one shotted... I've never really been one shotted by a boss ever.

If you keep on dieing and lose all your souls so that you never level up, well maybe... but take levels slowly, and use guides if you must.

you just need practice your roll timing. Beating the bosses is just a matter of figuring out their patterns.
